  1. Thanks, it is a 9 speed. Using them for years and was always very easy. Recently opened a new bag of them as well as starting to use/test smoove..... was wondering what is the difference. The experience of the link before vs the new lube, that I could not understand that it could make it that more difficult. Will need to get a tool now, I had to cut the one open with a Dremmel.
  2. Anyone else found that SRAM quick link is more difficult to open by hand when using smooth?
  3. I would be keen to know how many Songo riders was bikejacked in Kayamandi in the last 5+ years?
  4. South West Ireland is paradise if the sun shine: http://vimeo.com/99334781
  5. Anyone else found that the small 3 sprockets from a cassette bite into the aluminium freehub quicker for a heavy rider? (90kg+, for notubes 3.3 hub ) Ordering a steel freehub today...
  6. I wish this forum and you were there when I was 23-27 years old. Every youngster would be wise to get a financial mentor. (And no, don't come to me - I send them to my wife)
  7. Thanks, got sorted by Bellville cycles. Bought a (cheap) complete crankset.
  8. IE 11 here: I also experience the avatar issue that Fanie have - it comes and goes and I cant get a handle on the exact cause. I questioned this earlier in this section of the forum. The layout issue as display by TW - I had it earlier this week - I had to remove thehub from my compatibility view list. I also experience Johan's issue in the reply box. It seems to work but after a couple of IE spelling recommendations (which i NEED ) it goes all wrong. Had to revert to Chrome to post this for example.
  9. Hi My 'garden' employee use a MTB bike to commute from Fisantekraal to Durbanville where he find daily work. The bike work hard and was not maintained --> chain is old and teeth on drivetrain destroyed. I'm helping him (teach) to fix it himself and will supply bridge funding. It is Suntour MD 300 crank (square taper) that need at least a middle and big ring. Initially I thought I could strip the missus's XT rings and give her a new set, but they don't fit (~same bolt radius, but seems thicker / 'bedding' is different shape) and the Suntour middle and small ring is connected. (The small ring don't go directly on the 'spider') So now I need to drive tomorrow and see if I can find replacement parts in Durbanville/Bellville. Any LBS with lower income type spares recommendations please? (I think I need to spread my wings a bit for this - my nearest 'big' LBS don't even stock ball bearings any more and had to order it in for me a couple of weeks ago) If someone have an old one that I can buy, please let me know...
  10. What shoes are being used? On this pic as well as Philip's blog it look more like hiking boots than MTB cycling shoes with cleats. Closeup pics would be cool. (No, i don't have a smelling shoe fetish )
  11. How wrong of me I can only blame my own insecurities i.e. 'slow' / 'suck at these distances'/mental weakness that got exposed as open heroism
  12. Let me say 'interesting' First need to finish a TB first The 1200km Míle Fáilte Audax (http://mf1200.com/MFMain/) is finishing today and would probably be won by Dave McLoughlin, one hrrm pretty hard human being.
  13. +1000 I hate any shirt with big blobs of different colours. The SA flag, as much as I like it does not do it for me. (My wife bought me one, but I only use it in winter under other layers.) This example can be toned down even more: I want a black top with a flag on the chest like this one. Then the neck and arm 'borders can be a very small flag repeated all round. The same line small flag repeat can be used vertically under both arms where the green and black meet in this example. EDIT: and flag on central back pocket.
  14. BreeRivier MTB (newly built for event) as well as Computer Mania (mobile) @ Nuy in the last 3 months. My wife use it after the short route. Its brilliant.
  15. So: Cyclist would only be able to use two of the three gates?
  16. Also ran dry in the summer on my first full loop. One of the farm kids can make lots of money on weekends with a cooler, some ice and coke cans. Especially at a viewpoint.
  17. Unsure what GABRAN is and where it happen. I cant encourage using the tandem enough. It is great fun & a team sport. We found the climbing easy, but slow - there is enough gears. (I would have no concern taking my wife up the Galiber with a tandem) (EDIT: I would rather walk down though.) If the main purpose is to tour in France - then the pilot will miss part of the vista. (Although your stoker might be able to describe it to you afterwards) Try it out. Whatever you end up using - it will be loads of fun. Enjoy!
  18. I would not recommend a tandem as holiday/tourist bike. It require more concentration and will reduce the ability to look around / pointing out attractions. A tandem with a granny gear climb as easy as a mountain bike - so that should be less of a concern.
  19. hehe moer funny But honestly, in our garage is a GS, a Dakar and our little yellow Kymco And me and the missus still fight on a Saturday morning who can use "Sonstraaltjie" (called that because it is such a light in my life) for running to the shops. The big bikes are used for the big rides.
  20. +1 me and the missus both have a toothbrush and clean underwear permanently under the seat. If we found a nice place- then we just use nearest b&b and make it two days.
  21. Edit: 2006 model. With the amount of km's I rode the last year, the bike will probably last me another 30 years.
  22. I'm softening up a bit to the man...
  23. At school I had a friend from a farm in the area. We would pull each other on a "going sak" sled with the land cruiser on the sandy roads between the vineyards. (The idea was to offload your buddy from the 'sled'.) The amount of rugby jerseys and overalls we had to wear as protection against these "duwweltjies"... He had a very nice sister though - that would help pulling out the thorns in the evening.. priceless youth
  24. Daai Ouberg moet nie onderskat word nie. Dis n moerse pas.
