  1. Pilonidal cyst surgery last Friday. That's me off the bike for 6 weeks. Just as I was about to start testing new bikes...
  2. Myles! http://www.pinkbike.com/news/rockshox-lyrik-review-2016.html
  3. Punting this as a XC sled is blasphemy. Just saying.
  4. I'm leaning towards the Transition Smuggler, but will first test ride it in the next week or so along with a Banshee Phantom. From what I've read these are basically the little brother and cousin of the Following, which is the Sith Overlord of small travel, slack AF 29'ers. My decision is however made easier by the economic reality that I'm simply not in a position to fork out R50k for a frame. Was considering the Following because it's everything I'm looking for in a bike, but I had a harsh wakeup call when I got the pricing. My entire build will come in under the frame only price, so it's a bit of a no-brainer. I think it's clear that our market has far more superbikes than it used to. Two years ago it was the S-Works Enduro; now it's also the Following, the HighTower, the Nomad C etc. In fact people sneer at those S-Works Enduros now. "Pfffft, stay away commoner!" And by the sheer number of these bikes on our trails I'm finding it incredibly hard to believe economists when they say our economy is struggling (then again those economists also point out the ridiculous levels of indebtedness of Saffas, so...).
  5. Biggest question I'm left with though is "How does it descend?". Where was it tested and what were your findings? Especially since this is exactly what lead to all this bike's hype - it's basically a DH sled you can take on a long XC ride from what I've read elsewhere. Perhaps this clip sums it up: http://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/features/ONE-LAP-Lars-Sternberg-Luke-Strobel-Xanadu,28310/iceman2058,94
  6. Hi Iwan. Just to confirm, you rode this with a 140mm Pike up front? So HA would have been around the 65.5' range in low setting? Would this not have majorly impacted on it's climbing prowess, especially considering the recommended range of the manufacturer, and therefore perhaps been a bit unfair on Evil? I know ou don't criticise its climbing, but I'm still left wondering whether it's not a better climber than you give it credit for if run within recommended ranges.
  7. KAMAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!!
  8. Now if only we can get Jan to install a lift of sorts - even a pulley like in Lesotho
  9. Really awesome. Was wondering whether the 12sp lunacy was going to hit Shimano. Glad good business sense prevailed. So around R9k for full groupset?
  10. Ja, I don't think I'd want this as the ONE bike, but as one OF my bikes? Hell yes. I reckon this and an Enduro and you're golden. But more than one bike? Ain't nobody got time for that.
  11. Just watched the vid. Pretty awesome video. BUT (!) is that the best marketing angle to be taking i.e. "Our bike makes technical trails easy"? I know a few people who stay away from niners for exactly that reason *ahem Mr. IRide*...
  12. So are these + bikes really penetrating the market? I don't see too many 6Fattie Stumpies about, and having ridden one myself I must say I'm not a fan.
  13. That Sesta is great value. Full carbon with race ready spec for R60k. Sadly unheard of.
  14. None of this changes the fact that I want a Jeffsy. NOW!
  15. Whatever, you're being stubborn and splitting hairs. No one is saying it's exactly like the Stumpy. But it looks a ton like it. Even my wife, when I showed her the Jeffsy said it looked just like mine.
  16. Yeah, they really did, all the way from 2013: Still, I want a Jeffsy. Real bad. Oh, and it's bullcrap that niners have only recently broken through as contenders in the aggresive trail market. The 2013-2014 Evo Stumpies filled Spaz's trophy cabinet with awards for bike of the year etc. People have just been less full of sh*t of late.
  17. The Jeffsy is giving me a Jimmy
  18. I blame Josh Bryceland.
  19. And it's getting cheaper as the day progresses...
  20. Racing is still the most fun you can have with your clothes on. It's a huge group ride with some bragging rights thrown in. And Meurant usually opens some otherwise closed trails for his races.
  21. Yeah look, organisers need to eat and pay the bills and everything got more expensive for them as well, so I certainly don't begrudge them their increase. I just literally can't afford to do all 5 Dirtopia races and then the 4 or 5 WPGE races in a year. That's basically R3k to race, which I now realise doesn't even get you into a stage race, so I suppose still bang for buck. However, good value doesn't always mean affordable. I'll probably only be doing the Welvanpas enduro this year. It's too good to not to.
