  1. Too much is too much. Slow cooked with just enough smoke and the right rub is lekker. Too much and it is overpowering. In my opinion the trick is to only smoke occasionally and to not repeat too often with the same guests
  2. Good in theory, but I already have boxes of bits and pieces. Pumps, tools, lights etc and don’t need any more
  3. Thanks. I used to use that method and then I bought a Slow n Sear https://www.tbbq.co.uk/shop/slow-n-sear-1-0/ which works incredibly well, gives great control and has a water barrier to assist smoking and to reduce the direct heat to the meat. Both ways work, the slow n seat just works like a beast for me.
  4. A couple of recent braais . Been experimenting with smoking. Low and slow. Cooking time has been between 4.5 and 8 hours.
  5. I was in SA a while back and went to a braai with my wife’s brother and his wife at a friend of theirs’ house. My sister in law had been tri training for a few months and had been off the booze, but was drinking on that night. The non stop comments about how much better she was now she was drinking, what a loser she had been when she wasn’t drinking etc were surprising to say the least. Even when I and her 9 year old son had to help her to the car as she was so pissed, as was my BIL, the group was still laughing and joking etc. They were also shocked then that I left my car and drove these guys home as I hadn’t been drinking. The next day there was a post mortem Over a breakfast with the same crowd. The only negative comments about the night were levelled at me because I didn’t drink (I enjoy a drink but had a long flight the next day). Nobody thought it odd that a group of educated, wealthy people had spent the night drinking to oblivion whilst their kids played in the garden around them. I reflected on all the times when we lived in SA that drinking to excess was just part of the culture, whereas in twenty odd years of living in other countries, I have never been part of a community where that is seen as a regular thing. When we were young in SA, I was as bad as anyone else with drinking and driving and drinking stupid volumes of alcohol. The thing that most surprised me was that these were all people in their late forties partying like we did when we were in our early twenties.
  6. My wife has a 2013 XC60 that we got three years ago for a great price. They seem to really lose value quickly over here. Great car. Tows a 1500kg horse trailer no problem, 4x4 is brilliant in fields and on muddy roads and servicing is reasonable, except for when I had to replace the clutch. We looked at a new XC60 or XC90 recently when our car was in for a service. They are stunning, but the cost was way out of our price range as in we could probably find the money monthly but would never be able to justify it and it would massively reduce our mortgage options. We are going to keep the paid for XC 60 until Tesla produces the Cybertruck that I paid a small deposit on, which I probably won’t buy either because I would have to pay monthly [emoji23]. As far as safety being a selling point, one figure sticks in my head. Since the XC 90 2004 launched, not a single occupant of one has died in an accident in the U.K.. not one person in 16 years. I don’t care if it is restricted to 180. If you drive anywhere close to that on the road you’re a **** anyway. If I could, I would buy one for the safety alone. Fuel economy and safety come way before top speed in my book.
  7. This is all assuming that they have been found guilty first. Seems to me that it is this part that is currently missing in the process.
  8. China - I know your contribution has been massive. Been a fan of your pics for years on this platform and others. I suppose my query is more around using the platform to discourage, indirectly (and I'm sure without intent), people from taking the Plus option, whereas those of us who are pro the idea are possibly encouraging people (also probably without intent) to take the option. It just sort of feels wrong to discourage people from financially supporting the platform that you are using to do so. Having said that, we got notice three days ago that our business will be back up and running from Monday (govt agreed to give us three weeks notice originally), so this week has been mental and I may not be thinking overly logically at the moment.
  9. I’m with Swiss on this (never thought I’d say that [emoji23]). Apart from family, bikehub is my main connection with SA. It is the one constant source of views, entertainment and knowledge that keeps me feeling like I am still a small part of cycling in SA. I also feel like it has provided a platform for lots of good causes to be supported. I, like most of us, am fortunate that I am able to sell my time in exchange for a salary that allows me to pay my bills and support my family. I don’t understand why people don’t want to pay for a service that they find value in, be it movies on tv, a garden service, online newspapers or the hub. However, if they choose not to, why try and denigrate the service whilst still using it?
  10. Why do you keep returning to this? You are choosing not to pay, that’s cool.
  11. I used a debit card
  12. Looks stunning. Best of luck. Sorry about the timing. Would be immense to look at one of these trips for a couple of mates during the lions tour, assuming that travel normalises somewhat.
  13. RIP - what a tragedy. By tragedy I meant murder.
  14. What was the packaging condition like? I seriously doubt that there was any malicious intent, and would presume that somehow used item (maybe after a service) was stuck in a box and somehow ended up in the wrong place. Would any of you seriously believe that someone would try and purposefully pass this product off as new? **** Sakes
  15. Really good. I'm just starting the second half, but great watching.
  16. I used to hate Lance. Now I really like the dude. He reminds me of a South African. Loves the outdoors, loves a challenge, can be aggressive in defence, loves MTB, has made lots of mistakes, but has moved on.
  17. ******* okes are high or something
  18. Post of the week. Nice one
  19. Mature they are trying to make constant improvement to keep up with the times
  20. I’m happy to pay it just to support you guys. Hope that it works out
  21. Great day out on the bike today. Legs were tired after a few rides already this week, but I smashed my time up a hill that has hurt me for years. Took almost a minute off a 5 minute previous best.
  22. I’ve been using one since June last year. Sort of blow hot and cold with it. Because time is quite tight, I can’t really adjust training to suit what whoop tells me, but I do like the data. I did write a bit of a shpiel on it in another thread a while ago. I keep meaning to sell my Apple Watch and a couple of other bits and pieces to buy a Garmin watch, but the whoop has grown on me and the Apple Watch functionality gets better all the time, so not sure when I will get around to it. I am paying €18 per month to whoop, reduced from €25 after I threatened to cancel, but will likely cancel when I go back to a full subscription fee in three months time.
  23. I disagree. Whilst some areas of the globe have strict (ie non exercise outdoors) criteria, for the majority, exercise outdoors has been allowed and more people than ever are rediscovering cycling or taking up jogging as there is little else to do with gyms, football, pubs etc all shut. Certainly, In the UK, bike shops can’t keep up with demand and the second hand market has gone mental.
  24. Pic for Patch from a ride this week. Grabbed socks from the clean laundry
