  1. Is this not all done with a bluetooth connection to your phone?
  2. I completed 2019 and 2020. Still going for 2021 so far... Not nearly as much time riding in 2020 and nowhere near the elevation from 2019.
  3. I had the same issue when I got a warranty replacement frame - it needed a new rear shock, new wheels (or hub adapters), new seat post, new rear thru axle and some other bits and pieces. I was a bit pissed off with having to get all of these pieces as they only cover the frame and nothing else to go with it, but I guess I ended up with a 'new' bike at the end of it so even though it was a costly affair I was still happy in the end.
  4. What is it that makes it look suspect? I'd say it's priced correctly for what is a six or seven year old bike. The ad also lists the specs properly. Doesn't look at all dodgy to me.
  5. From my point of view personally, I mainly come here for a few of the off topic threads: Aviation fans - I love that there are pilots and aircraft engineers on this thread and I always find their insights fascinating. There's just enough here to keep me entertained and not overloaded as I would be if I went somewhere like AvCom. Are motorcycles allowed - I love motorbikes, so really enjoy seeing what other members are riding or thinking about riding, or trips that they're going on. MotoGP - my favourite sport to watch These are my staples. There are a few others that I keep up to date with, but these are my main ones. While I'm here looking at these, there will undoubtedly be some other threads in the regular section which will catch my attention and I'll go and read those and add input if I have something to add, but I'm not coming to BikeHub to look at those. If the non cycling sections weren't here I'd for sure not be here as much. Yes according to the data, numbers and which pages I'm looking at it will appear as though I spend more time looking at the on topic threads, but in reality I wouldn't have been there at all if it weren't for the off topic ones bringing me here in the first place.
  6. Guy Jenning's tracker isn't working. The one person I want to dot watch and I can't....
  7. My advice would be to go for the one with the most distance. Being repetitive on a short course gets really old really fast. Are those distances complete laps? None of them are particularly long... Let us know where and when you're planning on doing it - having people pop by randomly is a huge help to the morale.
  8. Anyone else notice that there was no 'goodie' in the riders pack this year? Like the bag and the awesome Knog rear light from previous years.
  9. Guy Jennings (a multiple top 10 Munga finisher) is riding again this year, but when he gets to the finish line he's turning around straight away and riding back to the start. All to raise funds towards building a pump track for disadvantaged kids through #pumpforpeace. Head over to https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/munga-there-and-back if you'd like to donate.

    PC Upgrade

Firstly, I'm not a PC guy and I get lost in all the new specs. My desktop is from 2012 and has a Sandy Bridge i5 2400mhz. It's got 8gb DDR3 RAM, an SSD for the main system (plus extra HDD for all the other stuff) and a 1050Ti 4gb GPU. It works pretty well and I've been mostly happy with it, but recently I've been noticing it taking some strain from two things. The first is trying to play FS2020 - its a bit jittery and the graphics have to be on relatively low settings, which takes away from the visual feast it's meant to be. This is worse when its cloudy at around sunset time - it gets bad. The second thing is that my wife is now using it as her work computer since she's now working from home. Her work laptop is a serious brick and its much easier to use our PC. But she uses 487 Google sheets at the same time as online accounting and Zoom and I can see it causing the PC to struggle. Now I'm wanting to improve how it works, but I'm not really sure what to do. I've been looking at upgrade kits on Evtech - i5 10th Gen 10600K with 16gb DDR4 or maybe a Ryzen, but I know nothing about these. Or do I get a better graphics card? Or do I try to find some DDR3 ram from somewhere? Will upgrading the motherboard and processor actually help? Or am I just throwing money away? I'm not sure what to do to improve it.

  12. There were only two tandems in our team.
  13. I was riding social this year, which was really tough. It was my fifth DC and by far the hardest I've done. We started late and rode for 8h53 total time (haven't looked to see our official time). We had a head wind from just after Barrydale and it just got stronger and stronger as the day went on. Brutal conditions with extreme heat. It was weird to be riding along mostly alone with no other teams visible in front or behind for very long stretches of road. It felt like a long training ride rather than a race, and I far prefer the normal format. Saw a fair amount of cheating going on with riders getting into and out of cars much further down the road or riding on their team cars bumper going into the wind. I really don't see the point of it - who cares if you come in 90th or 126th? It was a special one for me though as I rode it with my wife on a tandem (only our third ride on it!) which was a whole new experience for me, and was actually quite a lot of fun apart from the hills which sucked ass. Overall, a weird event.

    RC Cars

I was into RC drifting about 10 years ago. I went full pimp with headlights and tail lights and everything. Decided one day that I needed a more powerful motor which also needed a new speed controller, which then required stronger shafts as they were flexing, which meant I needed better joints (CV joints?) and then better hub carriers.... It was a constant 'add money here' project But I had so much power! It was a lot of fun. With normal rubber tyres on (not the harder drift wheels) it is insanely fast! I should actually dig it out of the cupboard and try it out again. Will probably need new batteries by now though...

Do you believe the tainted steak story? With no evidence or anything to back it up? You must also be a Trump supporter
  17. You can pay someone directly with PayPal, or a payment request can be sent. Think of it as an invoice being sent out which can be paid directly. That part of it doesn't necessarily mean that its a scam. The rest of it though...
  18. This was the follow car I had last year in Tanzania. Wonder how long before we need this here? I don't feel like I needed it there, but they were around anyway.
  19. Damn! I went to Millers Point this morning with the Mrs and we stopped to chat about going to the Cape Point gate or not. Glad we decided not to... What time did the incident occur?
  20. In my opinion, I wouldn't go with alu nipples. 40g odd split over two wheels is never going to be noticeable. And brass doesn't corrode and fall apart like the alu nipples do. TBH, I don't know if this is an issue up in GP, but on the coast it is. I like my nipples to turn when I turn them, not crumble or crack.
  21. I've got Nextie premium ultralight rims (28mm ID - only 358g and 359g each, as weighed on their individual cards when I got them) on the XC bike with 32 hole Hope hubs with XD driver (490g for the pair) and laced them with Alpina bladed double butted spokes from Rapide with DT Swiss brass nipples. They came in at a smidge over 1500g when built up with the tape and aluminium valve. I've been using these for the last two years and they've not let me down once. Even had a spoke break on day 1 at Eselfontein last year and the rim stayed true for the rest of the weekend. I can't recommend this option highly enough. I'm busy building up another bike with i9 hubs now and will go with the Nexties again.
  22. Except that there's now a warning sign literately everywhere... I can't go for a ride anywhere without seeing a sign about crime and to not ride alone, etc.
