Don't understand why the 53/39 would be more expensive as that's the normal configuration. The 42 is going to make you suffer on the climbs unless you a mountain goat. I would imagine that a 42/28 would also be heavier than a 39/25 (or 23).

Campag will lost the longest. The Ergo's can also be serviced. Shimano is great for fishing :ph34r: . It works. SRAM is light but it wears out pretty quick. Be prepared to replace cassettes & chains often.

You right that it had nothing to do with their endurance range, don't even think that they had an endurance range at the time but since then they got a bad name and it's stuck. Should be as the difference is on the spacers on the cassette and not on the wheel. Did you buy that 11spd groupset 2 days ago ? :cursing:
