  1. Yeah but generally in such circumstances the organisers will make a plan to get them an entry for the next year if they pay in the difference. Once you start and you don't finish the money is gone......pooof
  2. would have been great to get live coverage from the course via streaming TV America's Cup style.
  3. 17h00 I believe. its a 10 hour day. I hope we get some good close racing tomorrow and Wednesday. Would set it up nicely for Friday's killer
  4. ah thanks for the correction. Mr Geerdts called Marathon champs during the tv coverage yesterday
  5. so Joe average is running about half of that at 11-12Km/hr average... That non finisher list is going to grow leaps and a bounds tonight Anyone know what happened to Schurter? really disappointing that the World Marathon Champ is not mixing it with Sauser who is a lot older than he is. really disappointing
  6. I wish other MTB manufacturers would send their teams out to ride this race. Having Sauser dominate it every year against half teams just seems a little hollow. Dare I say it but 11years on and road racing is still more exciting. Why can't they cover the event with live TV?
  7. absolutely rubbish trying to follow whats going on. Whats with all the riders going off course. How can they still have route marking issues when the entry fee is R50,000 per team???!! Live tracker seems to be useless too.
  8. repair of the light is possible but you will need to check out the driver board as well. It is highly unlikely the LED burned out. More than likely it is a dry joint or the driver board.
  9. I always liked dealing with the smaller owner run shops. by and large they were always cut form the same cloth so there was already a bond. Once you have a relationship with the shop it gets a lot easier. Although some shops are just snoooty and the attitude of the sales staff makes me want to moer them. They don't get my money ever
  10. I parked at the Virgin Active. Had a shower afterward as well, then checked out a bit of eye candy over a Kauai muffin before heading home. No parking fine because planned ahead and am not opportunist scumbag driver with a don't give a ****attitude.
  11. I tend to avoid titanium axled pedals. Titanium is exhibits a greater deflection for a given load at similar dimensions to steel. This means the bearings are having to absorb load through a greater range of dynamic movement and thus they don't last as long. If you're a out and out race snake looking for the lightest bike then go for ti axles. If not, save yourself a bundle of cash and opt for the best steel axle pedal in the range. Ti axle pedals will require much more maintenance.
  12. They are hygroscopic which means they can absorb water to an extent and still perform their function of transmitting force. The absorption of the water leads to a lower reflux boiling point and reduced performance but they can still function. Problem is water will increase the corrosive effects of the fluid. Mineral oils in an automotive application are simply not good enough to provide the necessary performance at very high temperatures that these brakes need to absorb. Mineral oil is fine for our bikes because the operating temperature just never gets high enough for any water to be a major problem and there is no additional corrosive effects.
  13. THERE IS NO CLUB.
  14. this BS marketing is beyond tired. Why can't these greedy baffoons just be honest and say they're looking for new ways to drag their customers over a barrel for "share of wallet". R110K for a Mtb, 29 and 650B saddles,.............really.....!!! they must be real proud of not being creative anymore
  15. This pedal offers no stability for your feet. The platform is non existent. I wouldn't touch em. TIME ATAC LOOK S-Track CB Eggbeaters Shimano SPD all have "wings" on the side to provide stability to prevent the foot from rocking side to side. All the stability in this design comes from the cleat. thumbs down.
  16. I farted on my ride this morning. I may have violated the clean air Act at this point. Please don't tell the bunny huggers
  17. Or a bakkie / double cab/fortchjuna
  18. Alkyl ethers of ethylene glycol or Diethylene glycols are highly corrosive i.e. they tend to be acidic. They are also good solvents and can soften certain plastics and rubbers hence the choice of seals is important with these fluids
  19. being a total sucker for marketing
  20. :slapsfore head: <insert favourite face palm here>
  21. exactly. DoT brake fluids are NOT COMPATIBLE with anything else. DOT 3, DoT4 and DoT5.1 are interchangable but DoT5 is again not compatible with any of the others. Its a stand alone Silicone based brake fluid for race car braking systems. With Mineral Oil brake systems, there can be severe performance loss if you opt for a different fluid than the one recommended. For Shimano brake systems I'd say stick with the Shimano mineral Oil brake fluid. Magura works ok because they use the same supplier but with different dyes (one is red the other blue) but the viscosities are not the same. For best performance the Shimano brake is designed around their version of the mineral oil. Other hydraulic fluids may not have the same constituents to ensure reliability. E.g. the aromatics content in a minerla oil is important because this allows the seals to swell a little. An oil wth aromatics contents outside of 10% either way of the OEM product can cause the seals to swell further(increasing friction and causing premature seal failure) or cause the seal to shrink resulting in leaks, poor caliper brake clamping force and seal blow by resulting in brake failure. End users choice.
  22. Be careful with stating Brake fluids are just normal oils. they can be but mostly they're not. Shimano Mineral Oil Brake Fluid is around an ISO 15, fork oils are slightly more viscous. then theres hydraulic oils for systems that contain silver and for those without. there are circulating oils which are not suitable for every application or seal type. be very careful with generalisations.. All the seals are of the nitrile variety which are resilient to many materials
  23. Corse Components Carbon Wheels will be availabe in: 700C carbon Clincher carbon brake surface, 50mm deep aero section 650B disc 29er Disc Initially the 700C will be available with a Std Hubset with cartridge bearings or a Chris King R45 option. The standard drillings is 20F/24R. All laced with Wheelsmith spokes. I have held the prototypes and waiting for the set to be available to ride them. But just the parking lot ride between these and the Roval proves the Corse Components to be a much stiffer and stronger wheel. There is no soft carbon fairing on these. The whole rim IS the stress bearing structure. The Carbon Layup is also superior to many "boutique rims on the market and comparable to ENVE and Reynolds but at a reduced cost. Once they're available I'll tell you how to get hold of them. No sense creating a lot of hype and the resultant negative emotions if the container is delayed for what ever reason. These are wheels Johann Bornman would be proud of; strong rim, excellent hubs and excellent spokes, handbuilt and stress relieved
  24. Anything with an ENVE or Reynolds Composites rim is at the top end. Zipp have some good aerosections but the hubs are a bit lacking (as it is with most aerowheelsets) The Shimano Carbon aero wheelsets are great value and are solidly built A new brand is about to hit the market, its local and built from top quality materials - Carbon rims made in Taiwan, Spokes by Wheelsmith and Hubs of your choice of Chris King. Got my name on a set already
  25. BTW, the PD-M970 XTR pedal has a bit of angular movement for the cleat built in. SPD's are no longer a rigid non conforming connection. I rode the 2008 ACE with the XTR's and they lasted without causing me any injury
