  1. eina, it looks just as tough. I'll ride it as soon as I can get my groupset working again
  2. I couldn't find a way to share the ride- must be to do with my privacy settings. Anyway, below is a screenclip with markups of a route I did recently. I avoided the comaro climb but had enough other climbs to more than make up for it. edit: The hotspot hijackings map marker has been mostly cleared of foliage and clearvu installed, so it does seem to have made a difference with the reduced criminal reports. edit 2: the name of the first/far left "short but steep climb" is SmartWolk Suicide Climb and the second/right "short but steep climb" is Oudeberg Street Climb - for those wanting to do strava segment searches.
  3. I just got an email from Discovery for a new initiative they're trying- Vitality Open. I'll be trying it but really don't like the idea of having my driving tracked- is it possible to prevent this in settings or somewhere else (besides putting the phone on flight mode and gps off etc etc)?
  4. As much as I detest makro (have never met any competent staff at any of their stores, whats new), these bikes are fairly specced for their prices. I rode a older rigid Genesys bike with a 3x7 altus groupset when I started out and it was good enough to ride Rietvlei's rock garden with. These bikes can and hopefully will bring a small influx of new cyclists into the country. For now that ought to be a good thing, at least in terms of cycling awareness!
  5. Does that mean I'm not allowed to enter events posted in English if I'm Afrikaans?
  6. just over a month late, but yes, the downhill going South on Comaro has a fixed camera and going North is a helluva climb. It's even better if you take a left after reaching the top to continue climbing and then some downhill, which is over fast though. I tend to avoid going up that hill, as the 2nd robot about 50meters or less after reaching the top is a hijacking hot spot (haven't heard reports for a long while, but still dangerous with hiding space) and also there are taxi's that can barely make the hill that sometimes ride the yellow, which just adds to the risk.
  7. I've seen them before when I looked through their offerings, didn't understand it but now it seems so obvious
  8. yes, always, mtb on the road- almost done with a project for my roadie alter ego, then I can supertuck on that one too! That's a good point! To be honest, I didn't notice a lot of control issues, even held the position over 2 speed bumps, but maybe its thanks to the 26" wheels? Hmm, shouldn't that make it worse? I never thought of tucking on the mtb before but now it has me beguiled!
  9. Not being facetious here, but I tried the hands adjacent to each other over the crown this morning and my descents were definitely faster and power output lasted somewhat longer. This is going to be fun! should probably add it was on the mtb
  10. PS I skipped the last 10 pages, didn't know there was enough content to cover that many! I think OP's intentions and follow ups have been perfectly clear from the start- he shared a personal experience of him using the Aeroad and nothing more. The purpose was to inform future buyers with similar "usage intents" and I believe that contributes positively to the hub. I almost always read user experience and reviews (like this one) before making big financial decisions, so appreciate experience related feedback like this. Maybe I should have joined in on the post count gravy train
  11. So I decided to take chance with CL Boksburg, seeing if this cwc/cl merger sale is what it claims to be- summed up, waste of fuel and time visiting the shop. Even after the R100 discount voucher they were still R10 over other shops for the same items. If changes will only come in time, I suspect that by the time they do come they won't matter anymore.
  12. This is also the only thing I've been wondering since about 10 pages back!
  13. Thank you Racetec responded today to saturday's email that I should contact Spectrum Sports. Spectrum Sports responded to today's email and thinks the IR scanned my board dring the 50km lineup sometime, but they adjusted it to the batch's start time and the world is in order again Was it an old man riding an orange ebike? I parked next to him!
  14. Not always hey... I believe it depends on the company model and/or integrity. I bought a dremel recently, I used it 25 minutes, 5-10 at a time, then it stopped turning on out of the blue. Explained this to the retailer and they reimbursed the full cost. Could've gotten nothing, could've struck gold. I think op only received the two replacement frames because sitting on the top tube wasn't mentioned, but I'm duly impressed that 2 replacement frames were still sent! Random idea OP, but is it at all possible to have the top tube rebuilt stronger? I know of 2 companies at least in JHB that do good work on carbon. I know it'll be slightly heavier, but if you take on upon yourself to have the top tube strengthened, you could perhaps use the Aeroad frame the way you want to and still benefit from every other reason that you bought that frame. What do you think?
  15. Thanks Rookie! It is there... but it says it took me 3hrs+ to finish the 30km, which is very wrong Do you know whether I should contact spectrumsports, racetec or cycleevents for this error?
  16. Today was a really fun race. The seeding group caused lots and lots of hold ups on the single track, but it was really fun- that huge drop was unexpected and awesome! My one foot took a nice plunge in the water Anyone else missing their results on cycleevents' page?
  17. I actually discussed with a colleague earlier this week about kyalami being open to cyclists before and was pleasantly surprised seeing this thread. Now it looks like there is an event (possibly a bikehub thread on it) that I missed. Wonder wat happened, because sounds like its something they won't forgive.
  18. puts me in the tjop-en-dop span group c
  19. Ah, exactly why I asked because it rang the bell of sixth sense! My large specialized comes across as borderline too small as well, but with the setback seatpost its forced into working adequately.
  20. Im curious which brand that is?
  21. wha?? I've done several 60's before and even I only entered the 30km after a stump of the flu. Not here to tell you what to do, but look after your heart hey. You could finish the 50 perhaps but at what cost? Either way, good luck!
  22. 186 on larges, because could never find XL's when I was looking!
  23. Using the Strava Segment explorer I found this quickly: https://www.strava.com/segments/3966378 There were several segments though, so you could probably find something more specific when you have a look.
  24. Sorry for jumping in on your post Cheese, the excitement got the best of me! How does one get there? Or rather, which entrance? I've driven past the gate on corner of Milner Road and Bram Fischer often, but is this even a usable entrance?
