  1. run a way in lynnwood Randburg runner, there are a few, just not always easy to find
  2. If you have normal ish feet and gait, Nike Pegasus is really hard to beat for a day to day shoe. I usually try pick up a previous model on special or from the factory store
  3. I couldn't resist the Karkloof Special, so i am in for my 4th Karkloof... 600 is a big pipe dream to be honest, especially with a 2nd child due in March, but aim high as they say
  4. last year was not a running year for me, I only ran 300km all year. I did do just under 600 hours on the bike so it was still a good year for fitness. I have been enjoying an off season since Sept by just ticking along, training as and when I feel like it, doing a lot of strength work. Started running again now the last 2 weeks. I have a 100 miler entry, still not feeling overly committed but will build up to it slowly. I want to break 600 hours of exercise this year just to see it is possible for an amateur.
  5. there is a bush fix for this as well. We sat in a hotel garden in Naryn stuffing our faces while a fellow racer executed the fix using a youtube video to guide him. He rode another 500km before pulling out but I was impressed with the fix that morning. I promised myself I would study the bush fix that day, but have not really ridden since then and forgot( maybe the 3 hours of sleep that night killed the memory... That being said having just abused the daylights out of my axs on all the bike hike a bikes at silk road, it is worth it's weight in gold not having to change the dropout or bending them.
  6. it is one of the cheaper ones to do though especially if you are special. I have a 40 tooth on my trainer bike to make the hardtail work with Zwift, think I paid R800 on a special and bought a few a year or so ago. I know cycle lab had a few of these odd size chainrings on special late last year as well.
  7. these bigger volume tyres that are now standard are interesting on the tyre pressures. I still prefer a 2.0/2.1 tyre but maybe I am just getting old. I have 2,3's on currently but you can literally see the whole tyre folding sideways off the rim under side load. On the topic of pressure gauges. be very very very e....ing careful with them. I went to a petrol station to seat a tubeless tyre, the gauge was definitely broken. Anyway at what the gauge said was 2,4bar the tyre exploded off the rim in my face and unfortunately in the back of a BMW X1. My ears were ringing, I had stans sealant up my nose, in my eyes and all over the entire car interior. Rim was ruined, tyre wrecked. Every petrol attendant was on the floor. The next day I went and pumped my car tyre to 2.2 on that gauge and then checked it with a proper gauge and 2.2 on the gauge was actually 3,4 bar. I have never used a petrol station air pump on anything again. I bought a compressor and a nice gauge setup for home after that.
  8. nope, got to love a good hope hub zinging away... Did a 50km downhill from 4000m down to 1200m in 50km at silk road, my hub sang, it was music to my ears,
  9. It may be best to state what opp/injury. Good orthos specialise and it may be better to go to a specialist a little further away. Just my 2c as someone who has had 5 different ones operate on various parts of me.
  10. just my 2c, maybe it will fall on the correct ears and save a life. MTB riders riding on the N4 Highway between donkerhoek offramp and the Rhenosterfontein road or rail bridge please reconsider your route. I saw it a lot over December, worst case was on Saturday, 2 abreast in the yellow line towards traffic on a dual carriageway. It may not seem like a dangerous section or a long stretch but twice I have seen cars veer off the road in that area, I drive it a lot. I know it is convenient, but it is not a good idea. Why is it so unsafe you may ask? People do u turns under the rail bridge to avoid paying toll. They merge into traffic at the bottom of the hill and a few times I have seen guys have to avoid an idiot taking a gap that is not a gap or not realising how slow someone is going in the fast lane. etc The cops also speed trap there, same thing, guys hammering the brakes to stop for police, then the guy behind needs to avoid and loses control. You don't want to be anywhere near those shenanigans on a bicycle. What you do to avoid that section and not cross over to mamelodi side of the highway is use the mooiplaats road past the council for geoscience core library, it takes you to the donkerhoek/rosemary hill road safely on dirt. it is scenic, not much more distance or climbing, the mooiplaats section is usually quiet enough to ride2 abreast very safely.
  11. Magoebaskloof has one of the better schools for mtb and adventure racing in the country.
  12. Also probably not helpful. But a nice garmin watch is also a win. If bike computer fails/gives issues you just use your watch. You will find day to day you use it more than expected
  13. that is a tricky question. I have a 42 on an aluminum Merida Big Nine from ±2013. Might be easier to ID a few frames that are options/Available to you and see if you can find out if they can handle the chainring
  14. ya I took flames for pointing out riders are great at neglecting core and then finding other ways to make themselves more comfortable(ridiculous setups). But you are 100% correct
  15. Shop around and pick and choose and you can get more epic experiences for less.... Grand Raid 100 miler on Reunion is ±R4500 NZ Coast to Coast(paddling is better than swimming) R15k and is a lot tougher/ epic than an ironman Races like Silk Road, Atlas, Helenic are only around 14k entry, ±15-20k flights. For that you get days of epic riding, ridiculous climbs and immersing yourself in a totally different culture. We ride South African conditions and trails every weekend, go do something different...

and Gemperle would be nearing the finish line probably if he was racing.
  17. I will never go back to mechanical shifter ever. I have abused and abused the gx AXS and it just keeps shifting perfectly. Packing it in and out of a box at adventure racing world champs it took abuse, then at silk road we had a 30km hike a bike section(read drag your bike up through a kloof over a 4000m summit) The bike, the derailleur everything took abuse, both are covered in scars from that. We crossed a river about 30 times that day. For the 1200km of riding after that it still shifted perfectly. Batteries were still going 2 full days of riding except when it got really cold but sleeping with them in my sleeping bag with all other batteries made them last longer. My bike still has it's original hanger, the derailleur protects itself as promised. It also just keeps shifting like a dream. Thats my 2c and my opinion, I have put off buying a gravel bike for months now because I won't buy another bike without electric shifting...
  18. used to be able to order it directly from them on the online store, maybe send them an email
  19. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25169440/ There are lots of studies done to show they are worth it. For me as well the convenience is king. I always need to eat after training and it is just easy to get one down and it is low fat and keeps me full till lunch
  20. lifestyle ones are not with the other sports supplements, so prepare to walk the isles to find them, there is another blue brand in there as well sometimes which is even cheaper
  21. When are we as humans going to realise how badly marketing teams are fooling us when it comes to food intake. Salt is Sodium Chloride. Remove the Sodium and you get Chlorine(gas) The stuff they are selling as 'sodium free salt' should just be called what it is, Potassium Chloride. But no one will buy that because 'sodium free salt' sounds less bad for you even.
  22. I use the biogen effervescent tablets, R150 for 30 of them gets it down to R4.90 a bottle. It is cheap enough and requires no added admin. There is also a lifestyle effervescent at dischem which is R130 for 30, R4,30 a bottle. Both have relatively bland taste and are ok with warmer water. That is also the standard pricing for them both. https://biogen.co.za/shop/electrolyte-plus-fizzy-value-pack-30-tabs/?attribute_product-flavour=Citrus&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22713933753&gbraid=0AAAAACYmGdN6x-TCyQOPx_HRkH26GqVJ4&gclid=CjwKCAiAuIDJBhBoEiwAxhgyFkUiwsa_sdcdeDkMlCA9SNJXL3isVfZamS0dqJWHKLNHaBDoJV4V3xoCHDgQAvD_BwE https://www.dischem.co.za/lifestyle-electrolyte-fizzy-30s-145?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19103199011&gbraid=0AAAAAo1J0TyPRy1pXFQZyQUXMPfKsyomj&gclid=CjwKCAiAuIDJBhBoEiwAxhgyFnMojrrTnBH7K8kg3R9O7J0BTumhJUjmfL7ygxJEFGxmgH8fm7TRRBoCHUUQAvD_BwE
  23. surely if you operate a tent rental company in the Cape you make sure your product can handle wind... These companies must be killing insurance companies losing their company assets every time the wind picks up.

for 28k you can get flights to Kyrgyzstan and pay entry fee to another race. But it also has no prize money and unfortunately that race is not labelled toughest on earth though...
  25. I miss power balance bracelets. You could spot an them from a distance and avoid them. Now you have to interact with them and wait for them to discuss their latest fad diet(banting, keto, vegan etc), fad sport(hyrox, padel, crossfit etc) or other useless craze before you realise and walk away. Note- I was short on my lists, but I can elaborate if anyone needs me to grate every single human being on the forum...
