  1. windeed.co.za You can use it to track down the owner/driver of the vehicle, R150. What you do from there is up to you, but 50-60 cyclists parked on his driveway 'changing a tube for an hour or 2' when he needs to leave for work could be fun...
  2. And pete's 'I eat everything from petrol stations, fast food outlets and Steak every dinner Diet' https://www.outsideonline.com/2131106/pete-kostelnick-13000-calories-run-across-america
  3. Go see a Doc, they can tell how bad it is and what the best action will be for you and for comrades in 1 month. I managed a 500km expedition race 5 weeks after ITB release surgury, but mine was really bad like I couldn't run to the bathroom without feeling it.
  4. imaging if these great minds had focussed on something more useful, like say curing aids or putting an end to the common flu.
  5. and mom probably runs the athlete facebook page?
  6. Fixed, one day you will realise that tar is boring and mountains set the soul free.
  7. Paragliders have over 17kg of glider on their back and have to hike to the highest point they can before they can fly, if the conditions are ok. The cyclists k@k off for the first section because there are no rideable paths there until they near witsies. The other trail runners were not running hard and had set shorter goals for the day than I had so they were conserving energy.
  8. So my weekend fell apart like a cheep knock off... X-berg is a race that I think scares most, the route, the exposure the distance and the lack of babying by the organisers mean it is real and tough... If you are running first section from oliviershoek to witsies mountain lodge shares a few tracks with Drakensberg Northern trail depending on the route you're taking. I had decided to run from start, to witsies, up to sentinel carpark and through over to Mnweni. The plan fell apart early on, started at a comfortable pace, nothing too strenuous, similar to the pace for the 60km skyrun for wartrail. I pulled a solid gap on the field, but from early on my heartrate was high and kept spiking. I hit over 200 a few times and was battling to get food in. Heartrate kept getting worse to manage even as I slowed the pace a lot. Coming into Witsies one of the paragliders managed an epic flight and cruised past and kept on going. I reached Witsies having thrown up all food and water, with a heartrate through the roof and battling to get it down and decided to call it a day and not risk the lungs. Of to the doc this week to see what is wrong. My Suunto tells a very scary story, for wartrail with slightly more climbing, slightly higher elevation and a longer distance I was mainly in Zone 3 and 4 between 131 and 163bmp going at 8:10/km I only went over 163bpm for less than 5%of the time. For Xberg over 70% of the time I was in Zone 5 going at 8:30/km.
  9. The scientific explanation behind this and link to peer reviewed studies?
  10. I would replace sugar with my own chunder before resorting to Xylitol. Sweeteners are like masturbation, ya it may feel kinda the same but really in the end you just f******* yourself...
  11. The whole LCHF thing is nothing new, just made popular by a dr in the cape, Antarctic expeditions have been doing it for nearly a century and they not the only ones. Go read about those early glory days, Scott's party's staple food was pemmican... One thing that has popped up a few times in this thread is the fear of Diabetes, yes you can do as much as you can to avoid it and be healthy. We just need to take a moment to consider those who have it, it can't be fun for those living with it reading how scary and bad it is on threads over and over. I have a few friends with type 1 diabetes and they both absolute machines, one day when I am big I want to race as hard as they do. So bear them in mind before shaming it and know that it is tough, but you can still race hard with it. Huge respect for those living with it and keeping healthy and active
  12. My X-berg route is finalised 105Km of running, 143 km of cycling this one is going to hurt a little. Fresh pair of Hoka's to keep the feet happy and some proper mountains to keep the soul happy. Enjoy the long weekends running, drive safe for hobbit all those heading down.
  13. I would love to see stats on the number of people diagnosed with early stages of diabetes for each year for last 10 years, the number diagnosed as gluten intolerent for same timespan and then the number of kids diagnosed with ADD for each year of last 30 years and then the average per year of say malaria or tonsilitis.
  14. Just limit yourself, 1 sweet/chocolate a week. Drink real coffee and it is easier not to have sugar in it, as above- after a few weeks you won't be able to handle coffee with sugar. The rest gets easier with time. My 2c, every time you want something sweet, put the value of what you would eat in a jar, in 3 months time go buy yourself something lekker and the more you have in the jar the happier you will be. My mrs did this to justify buying a new sports watch, in 3 months she hit her target.
  15. much easier to buy top riding gear and hobble around the local coffee shop in cleats. If you have the top end gear someone will assume someone else's Pinarello parked outside is yours.
  16. Munga- Bennie out front Pavel not far behind- for those of you who don't know Pavel, he is strong, like really strong and will get stronger- google the spine race and you will se he has won it.... Nicky is in with the next bunch of guys lurking also not far off 2nd place. Brad Hyman is there with Nicky, he is also strong, I don't know Bo but evidently he is a solid runner as well. this is gonna be a long week of dot watching...
  17. Just a note on the holes, test them with how you plan on keeping your map on the board. If you just covering the map in DC fix and using bulldog clips to hold it down check your clips are strong enough that it doesn't blow the map off the board on fast downhills. The air comes through the holes and can cause issues, not major ones but you must just check and test. If you using a map bag and elastics, check the elastics as well, nothing worse than map flying off on downhills. Another thing to remember is to test it with your eyes, some people want the map board higher so they can read it easier and some like it lower for their eyes, the whole point is to have it that you can read on the fly, if you have to stop to read the map you may as well dcfix it and tuck it into you shorts instead of using a map board.

  19. cut the welds, put a lock on the gate with a code, share code on bike hub...
  20. I had a quick look at the compilation and diagrams for that area. Sandton Drive is located on ERF 6, and further down the road this ERF borders on Woodside, there is a servitude accross Portion 9 which is the triangle area in the gap where sandton and woodside diverge, but no where does it say right of access. My 2c is that I am not sure who put a fence up there anyway, because ERF 6 will be owned by municipality or roads or whatever governing body and it has access to woodside. But my guess is that is was done for security and you can understand both sides. The compilation is IR1A21B available from csg website...
  21. My trophy shelves have curly style brackets which happen to hold medals fairly well, so the more memorable ones go there, the usual finnishers medal I turn down at the line.
  22. Such a close minded thought... If you knew anything you would see that the bucket is an African Snakebite institute bucket and with a bit of luck that snake will be milked for pharma's to make antivenom. We actually had an antivenom crisis recently in more central parts of africa with different species due to the discontinuation of Fav Afrique, so actually a little bit of reading and appreciation can go a long way. This snake could be a part of a process which could save someone's life.
  23. I would check with them, but no where on their website could I find them stating where it is Satellite or Cell/GSM, which usually means cell/GSM because there are very few satellite based solutions and all of them cost a lot more- Spot, Yellow Brick etc.
