Why is it not working properly? Simple people and their attitudes. I as a person of colour have seen some successful systems in place and producing through their ranks quality riders, unfortunately these guys are snapped by the richer clubs with all promises and no delivery hence the system dies. Germiston wheelers in Gauteng is a good example of doing great work with the PDI guys, yet there is not recognition for it. I ask the question of youngsters such as Roy Masikari, William More and many more why has no big club taken them under their wing and groomed them.(Check their results at the timing co's) We hear and see a lot about the LCA in Cape Town(Glyn), this is truly a revealtion of transformation in cycling yet they get shot down for thinking out of the box and getting initiatives off the ground and working for the youngsters wanting to be part of their system. With the help of Glyn I had grown my development clinic into a budding affair up in Gauteng(Florida/Jabulani) only to be hijacked by my so called neighbouring clubs two weeks before Glyn and Pick n Pay were to give my project a huge cash injection all for what- a promise of better things to come from them. By the way none of these guys and girls had ridden a race since they left me before the "Tour de Soweto" I WONDER WHY? I had bought them timing chips, given them kit, helped fix some of their bikes entered them into races and transported them there and back, some slept over at my home the day before a race so they could get to the races with me the next day, what todate have they got from their new clubs? Yes Glyn keep working the way you are, you will produce the goods in the long run, Kakaa is almost their. I take pleasure and pride having a youngster such as Isaac donning his kit and bike in the peleton and racing with the big boys here in Gauteng and achieving good times amongst the best as can be seen this year in the Elite races, I believe Glyn Andrew McClean and a few others such as Germiston Wheelers need to be commended for their efforts, they are not like the window dressers in the sport dishing out Tokens only. Two of the biggest events in the country are quick to say the are aiding the PDI's at their events by donating free entries, bikes and sponsored clothing to a few riders. That I believe is window dressing, where are they during the year when we are working with these persons, yet race day they in the sponsored colours giving recognition to the event not to the clubs and persons working with them the other 364 days in the year. I to date have never accepted free entry for any of my riders into races thus far and I have white youngsters in my club who I enter into races as well because of their circumstances. IT IS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE AND GETTING THE JOB DONE.
