It is a fabulous race. My favourite in SA. Fantastic route with a nice mix of terrain. Just don't underestimate the climbing. Although it is from PMB and down to Durbs there is still a fair amount of climbing (about 1200m if I remember correctly). First big hill is a few km from the start. Push a bit up there but not too hard as you will suffer later. The middle bit is made up of short, sharp climbs and descents with one awesome twisty technical descent. Beware of one tighter corner though. They do have hay bales there so it is safe enough. There is a nasty climb on the alternative route which you should try be in a group for. I have ridden it solo and in a group and it is much fast in a group. Nearer the end there is a climb passed a petrol station and you cross over a robot. After that there is a descent where you will pick up quite a speed. At the bottom is a very sharp and narrow left turn. There are more than enough marshals there but just be aware of that and be careful. The last nasty uphill follows that on the highway. Off the highway and some fast flat wide roads with a few 90 degree corners to the finish. You will definitely enjoy it. In 2010 I did the Up Ride which was the route in reverse. While it has about 500m more climbing than the main race route the reverse route is much more exciting and fun. In my opinion it would really make a fantastic race route. I wish they could alternate it like the Comrades.
  2. I also hope so. Otherwise he is making you Freestaters look a little bad.
  3.  P.A.K - have you actually been onto the events website? You should have seen that it has nothing to do with the month of August. The title sponsor is the newspaper called the Cape Argus. If you had entered the race you would have seen the correct name. A bit of advice. Perhaps you should consider getting new shirts printed. And next time make sure of what you want printed before sending it to the printers.
  4. I would say extremely embarrassing! Because now anyone who wears the shirts will look a little bit silly.
  5. Seems like a fair response from ASG. Regarding the Emperors race it seems like it is a totally different event from the one Edenvale Peddlers had. Don't they now have that Serengeti race? Perhaps clubs in the future need to understand the legalities better. One thing which stands out for me from the thread seems to be that the various clubs don't seem to understand all the legal aspects and who has what status. Perhaps then the OP and others would have clearer views on what the actual legal positions are regarding ownership and who has what rights regarding events.
  6. Well somebody has to for people like Eddy on Page 3. Haha
  7. I got to have a bit of fun as well guys!
  8. Oh dear! Can't people get the name right! It is the Cape ARGUS!!!!!!! The newspaper's name is the "Cape Argus". It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the month of August!
  9. Great to hear about some good service.
  10. Other races in their first years haven't had mass starts. Only makes sense for smaller races. There obviously not expecting many people. Mass start for open would be interesting although groups would probably form quite quickly.
  11. But you were meant to go win it?
  12. A "moderate to difficult" route with a four hour cut off? That is fine for the top riders that start at 0700 but not everyone will so they will have even less than 4 hours to complete the route. And judging by that road on the way to Trailseeker Cullinan in July it would be anything but safe to race on!
  13. He fell off his bike? Hope he recovers soon! Doesn't sound like a nice experience!
  14. Sure he will get extra in drinks in 1st Class. Unlimited supply of bottled water as well.
  15. Guess who will welcome him at the airport.
  16. That really looks ouch!! Hope he recovers soon!
  17. Is Hakahana as technical as the van Gaalens race Tim?
  18. Well done to all who rode yesterday! It was tough out there. I managed to stay with the front of the A guys until 65km when the wind decided to have some fun with me. Rode with a junior and VC until Henley when they dropped off. From there it was a lonely and extremely windy ride to the finish. Seemed like I ended up in no man's land between the first two A groups. I suppose it was a good training ride. Organisation did seem quite good. Just the seeding was a royal mess up (initially seeding in H when my normal group is A. Luckily I managed to get a reseed). Another thing which irritated me were the juniors which we caught. I think one one really went and did any work and maybe another did a few turns. But most of them just sat on the back while all the A guys worked. Having said that the A group did have quite a good rotation going there with everyone doing their turn at the front.
  19. Already entered! One of my favourite races in SA. Can't wait!
  20. Glad to hear. But is there not another solution for future events to the start/finish area? Last year I found the route from Broederstroom turn to the finish quite dangerous with cars and traffic. Just something to think about for future editions of the race. Rest of the route is great though!
  21. Good post! We should all try be as courteous as possible to others on the trails.
  22. Thanks Dips.
  23. Can we then shelter from the wind behind you Dips?
  24. I took my printed results to them. She went through the list with her pen. Can't use this, can't use this, can't use this, ok we will use this one. I understand if they don't use a Championchip race but all Racetec results from R4V last year should count. As all other races seem to do. Have a super and safe race on Sunday!
  25. Sad news! Thanks for the video link. His skills are AMAZING!
