  1. About 500km of great gravel just outside my front door - today I saw a cyclist
  2. Passed through Wilderness twice on my loop
  3. Eroica is scheduled for 7 may
  4. I saw one being assembled the other day, I thought it looked really nice - but then for that kinda loot it should
  5. No I’m thinking of the actual shop about 5km after phantom pass - but I forgot Totties in Rhenendal which is also great
  6. The average cyclist is average
  7. You want me to pay for a hotel and flight to joburg to ride my bike - hang in let me ask the family if they’d like to go to JHB or Cape Town next year ???? Any ride on carless roads is awesome and I’m sure it’s a fantastic race and ride - it’s just that it’s not very sexy Tour de France or tour of Oman ?
  8. @ Styvie would be a better bet on this route - I’m generally coming from the other side (Hoekwil) and steer clear of tar best I can - I definitely would not ride a bike on the N2 but I see people do it - December seems like a gamble on the 7 passes from Knysna shop just after cresting phantom pass for coke and some good unhealthy things garden route trail park about 32km from lagoon for amazing carrot cake and coffee if you drop down towards sedge at the trail park and loop back up to 7 passes Nostalgia does good food (poor coffee) and the ride up hoogekraal is a hidden gem coke stop in karatara (beware dueling banjos) Take a ride through the town 30km later Hoekwil with plenty options these days wilderness heights at map of Africa has the best coffee in the southern cape - called Hallo Coffee and great views wilderness has average to rubbish coffee and good beer thats the 7 passes refueling bar 1 or 2
  9. 299 us shipping is actually quite reasonable and endorsed by Lance
  10. Lots of people park here - as usual just ensure nothing visible for thieves but I’d park here no problem - alternatively park in Knysna and ride to the phantom pass - massive shoulder and the pavement is actually a cycle lane
  11. They have redone so much gravel around here but not these 2 - the island lake section is ok but the one that goes across to sedgefield is so bad that I turned around after 2km last week
  12. Sounds like you rode up the tar version of whites - that’s world tour level steep - there is a much longer but beautiful and more gradual smooth gravel version for next time
  13. I ride the 7 passes a lot - the gravel is incredibly smooth at the moment - for safety drive to the brenton on sea turn off and start from phantom pass anyone who has had issues with the 2 townships on the 7 passes must be incredibly unlucky - I ride through the Hoekwil one everytime I ride my bike and often return through it too - my daughter has playdates there There are endless options and loops off the 7 passes and hoogekraal climb is a must you’d be hard pressed to find safer and nicer gravel riding that Knysna George avoid the N2 and avoid the township near the Noetzie turnoff have fun
  14. Never happened to me before but I had to Tom Dumoulin made for a very unpleasant 30km home considering most was climbing Not sure what was in the coffee midway
  15. Squeezed lemon in the one and good old fashioned game in the other
  16. Turn left at Wilderness and head up to wilderness heights, turn left at Map of Africa and get a coffee here - you won’t regret it - beautiful riding all around
  17. no ...just no Nice paint job
  18. Sunny mellow ride
  19. If I’d put any less effort in this afternoon I’d have stopped moving but at least I was outside doing something
  20. I’ll be ordering from garbaruk shortly - happy to combine some orders as I have done many times in the past a garbaruk cassette in my opinion is on par with XX1 for less money - that said the most I have done on one is 5000km before selling the bike
  21. To my mind the only upgrade is an XX1 cassette another XX1 chain and you’re good for 15 000km even the X01 cassettes are significantly more durable than the gx EDIT posted as you did - I see you have more reasons
  22. Morning haze over island lake - a sure sign summer is on the way here - we’ve had so much rain I think I need to do a proper clean of my steed
  23. No filters or fancy camera tricks, it just looks like this on the garden route after rain
  24. I ride the 7 passes between George and let’s say central Knysna - I don’t go past the township on my bike and I wouldn’t - it’s just asking for trouble From the lagoon to George on the top road is about as safe as anywhere can be - as far as the N2 Knysna to George, again safe from being accosted but riding a bicycle on a national highway in SA is just madness in my view - I see and know people who do it. I prefer to minimize my chances of being hit by 2 tons of metal doing 120km if you’re a roadie get wider tyres, drop the pressure and ride the 7 passes - probably half tar half gravel
  25. Edit wrong place but @Sid the Slothyou are missing some of the best part between Hoekwil and George
