  1. If you find them I want a brown one - looks cool my bum must adapt
  2. Very broad question with an unknown budget there are so many good ones out there but my recommendation would be for one that takes nice wide tyres - these eat up bumps and make for a comfy ride.
  3. Let me know when you replace, I’ll buy that just because it looks cool - I have the brooks cambium and love it
  4. it's about as safe as it gets in SA. As ever be careful on tar, not much of a shoulder on most roads in the area. And I hope you like wind
  5. Not sure if it’s been mentioned but the Covid state of emergency has has an impact on the homeless and also means they cannot be evicted - another massive downside is that many parts of cape town smells like human excrement I was gagging at the start sitting on my expensive bike next to people getting up from their drenched tents and sideways wheelie bin homes
  6. I have no objection to ebikes in races But what I saw today makes me realise that organizers need to adapt to ebike popularity in another way - maybe a shorter course with an early start - the elites will catch them but that’s another problem if you suck my wheel, that’s within the rules and part of bike riding I don’t care if you start in 6D - sitting behind a large man on his pedal assisted ebike as he parts wind is cheating - I saw a lot of this and it’s wrong I diced a 20 “strong” group from ladies mile to Simonstown - they kept catching me because they were getting electric assistance - not his fault Wheel sucking ebikes is electric assistance plain and simple My mate who rode with me was not happy with me refusing to get the help 😂
  7. I don’t have a great seeding due to several reasons , namely me taking first timers around the last 2 years and most notably lack of talent This year I’m guiding my super fit runner surfer mate around so I’m dropping from 2D back to 6D - this might be my hardest one ever because on his first roadbike ride he did 100km in 3 hours So when you see a a shiny Ti gravel bike splashing past with a big man being chased by a skinny athlete, spare a thought at least I get a massive sleep in on Sunday and I can actually watch the winners finish before heading to the start 😳
  8. if anyone wants a free entry you are welcome to mine - DM me
  9. Then there’s the gadget that converts 11 speed sram to 12 speed and that also works with mtb rear - can’t remember what it’s called but inexpensive
  10. Must be the safest out and back ride you can do on a road bike in SA - massive shoulder smooth (on a gravel bike anyway) I rode it a few weeks ago after a small section of the road collapsed and it was bliss because there was so little traffic Quite odd to ride from pretty Clarens and then only 30 odd km away, Fouriesburg which is, let’s say, not nice
  11. Axs is designed to work with the mtb cassette/deraileur as far as I know I have in the past used sram force 11 mechanical with an 10/50 no problem - (oversized garbaruk cage and pulleys)
  12. 42 garbaruk chainring with 10/50 I usually use a 38 up front but to win the argus I’ve gone with the 42 - actually surprised how comfortably I’m climbing proper hills with the 42 but I know that when I tour I’m not strong enough when tired that gearing has to lug 95kgs up hill and that number sadly excludes bike
  13. No no no @NotSoBigBena Lauf fork is a sexy functional piece of kit I’m not tough, can’t grow a beard, hate tents and don’t like having my teeth rattled by corrugatings
  14. Test driving the slicks and rigid fork on a beautiful day in Wilderness in my opinion the Lauf fork I usually use is light years ahead in term of comfort but the slicks and rigid fork are marginal gains so I can win the CTCT
  15. Thanks for the link - they had 2 pairs so I got them both
  16. thanks, placing order shortly I live in Hoekwil, the town fashion forgot
  17. When I bought this many years ago that’s what I thought I was buying - I ended up marking all the poles for bearers in the dark as I was determined to use my new toy
  18. Very clever ! My only gripe with my laser level is I can’t use it outdoors because of the sun - last night I leveled a deck I’m building in the dark, something I often do 😂
  19. I saw that 2019 K2C weather coming and didn’t bother going to Uniondale - my friend left the route in an ambulance with hypothermia and she’s a doctor that said I’d rather ride in warm rain than wind
  20. I'm taking @117 up on his kind offer even though I've sold all my bikes apart from 2 and had sworn off adding more
  21. it's the Campy Record groupset that caught my eye
