You would be welcomed with open arms in this thread. Page 1 has nothing much to do with what it has become by page 420.

Oh what I would give to be able to read comments on classifieds again!

With the whole revamp thing though I feel too stupid to be able to navigate to the classifieds anymore though????

  2. Lekker. I am waiting to see if I manage to sell my house, and have already drawn up plans for building a part of the new garage into a semi workshop with some rollable cabinets, one of which will include a self-built table-saw using a circular saw that can be removed if needed. I am still undecided if I should go wired or battery powered, and then DeWalt is seemingly giving me these sexy glances..

But now that I see this, mmmmmm.

Dis net jammer die goed kos 'n klein fortuin......

Maar ek het 'n baie sagte plek vir die blou goed....

  3. If anyone has experience with Campy 11spd components, I would love to know how much I will need to set aside extra for servicing and maintenance. I am tempted to go for the Cannondale super six evo on the hub but I am concerned I am going to have shell out a lot more to replace any breakages or worn bits when the time comes.

From what I have seen there are limited spares available on the hub especially compared to Ultegra and new components seem to cost a fortune.

    Any input is appreciated.

Campy parts are more expensive, yes.

But I always buy KMC or other third party chain, as well as cables and housing from CRC, which costs the same as shimano...

Chainrings and cassettes I think are a little more expensive, but not by much, and they LAST....

Also, hubber JMK1 has all the spares you'll ever need.

  4. After about two years of lurking and seeing the success of some of the other build projects posted on the hub, I am hoping to pick some brains about a road bike build up after having just sold my first 'real' road bike.

A little bit about me: I have been involved in relatively high performance sport for the last 5 years training 12 hours a week, I am 177cm tall and weigh in at 64 at the moment but probably racing around 62ish (whenever that starts again). I have been riding 15 hours a week for the last two months as I picked up more cycling due to a running injury.

Here are some of the conditions:

    1. My budget is around R35 000. I could maybe stretch to R40 000 if the 'marginal gains' could be justified.

    2. I am hoping to source as much as possible off the Hub over the next few months, and I don't mind shipping across the country. I am based in CT.

    3. I have no problems with 2nd hand carbon - if the seller seems sketch I am willing to pay for a workshop to inspect the frame. I am also happy with the new Chinese carbon route but I am not sure if this is still an option at the moment. I am thinking of going for more aero geometry but I am open to being convinced otherwise as I think climbing is one of my greater strengths. Frame budget around R10 000.

    4. I am hoping to go for Ultegra R8000 or SRAM's Force 22, mechanical seems more budget friendly and #savetherimbrake. Hoping one will pop up on bikehub in good knick sometime for less than R10 000.

    5. Rim brake carbon wheelset 30mm-40mm deep. I don't really mind if they are clincher or tubular. Rim just seems like the right choice for a budget friendly build and there are a lot more around second hand. Again budget just sub R10 000.

    6. The leftovers will go towards a power meter. There always seem to be a few well priced R8000 power meters popping up here so that is why I am leaning towards the Ultegra.

    7. Total build weight I am trying to achieve is around the 7,5 kg mark, hopefully less.

If you made it to the end, thanks for reading all that and I look forward to your input and advice!

I'd get this, and have Nick build you a lekker carbon wheelset.....

  5. I have come across someone selling 6 mtb aluminium frames. 3 x Titan HT, 1 x Scott HT, 1 X Raleigh HT and 1 x Axis FS. The person owned a second hand shop and has closed down. They want R1 000 for all 6.

At first I thought is was a bargain and went racing off to check them out. Most are in good condition except the one Titan that is scratched to pieces.

Do you think that there is a market for these types of frames? None of them have headsets or hangers.

My plan was to build the Axis into a bike for myself (never owned a fs before) and sell all the hard tails for R100 to R300 each (depending on condition).

Will I get buyers at that price, bearing in mind, no headset and no hangers?

I think you definitely have a market. Just remember to factor in the cost of the headsets and hangers.
  6. Just getting the brake hoses trimmed- the weight by the way includes a multi tool and dynaplug

Crap Wayne. I looks like your chainstay's carbon was moulded incorrectly. It seems that it got flattened somehow....

Really hate to break it to you.

Maybe if you mention it to the shop they'll refund you. The ZAR has gained a bit, so maybe the Unno won't be as expensive as it was a few weeks ago........

    Really sorry man.....

  7. So yesterday I got struck down with a violent case of the sharts so no test ride. Anyways. Just did a little burn now.

I'm not so sure what the fuss is all about hey. They are much stiffer than my old wheels. The freehub sounds like a machine gun and they are 800 grams lighter than my old wheels. The carbon rolling makes a very distinctive sound and the 25mm tires run wider than they did on the stock Giant wheels.

The fuss is there to help you cope with justifying the cost....

That's the best I'm able to come up with...

  8. These guys have been brilliant - I have swerved around like like JZ on a witness stand - I want 120 120 which is a stretch for me and they don’t do it - when we ran out of options they just said don’t buy the bike unless you are sure

I’m not, more in love with their brand and process and it’s not going to get me what I want ultimately

Back to the drawing board but this time keeping my gob shut for a bit (if I can)

Pyga. And patience. Get a good book or series to keep your mind occupied while you wait........

  9. Be careful with those night rides everyone. I was doing the same, 80k night rides, up until to 11th June this year. A boar hit me when I was doing 52km/h.

Three broken ribs, broken arm, road rush all over. I am lucky I survived with no permanent damage.

As I can't ride during the night anymore and my wife hates when I ride during the day, I will probably have to give it up.

Riding early in the morning is the same - boars all over everywhere.

    Holy thread revival boarman!!!!

  10. That is so cool.

Upside is your hand won't go numb on those NC corrugations!

Big respect for getting yourself back doing what you love, I've been in the same storm. Different boat.

I'm an Architect and Industrial Designer and if I can ever assist with designing and getting custom parts (for you or the bike) made up, give me a shout, no cost.

    Cheers.

    Many thanks, appreciate it!!
