  1. Seconded. What a stupid thing to do at a race this size! Thirded. We had one **** who had the volume turned so loud that I could hear the rave music 3 bikes back. Thankfully he got dropped early.
  2. niterider, do you have the exact (to within 500m) distances of the start of Edinburgh Drive & smits? Had a few "spurts which confuse the picture for both climbs. Wish PT would come out with a CPU with an internal altimeter!
  3. For those interested. You can work out the power/weight yourself if you waqnt to compare it to your own figures. - my weight is 73kg. Suikerbossie 1 is an extract from the "race" Suikerbossie 2 is as a result of going back to give my wife some moral support. 4. You were timed from the "Gun" to the timing mats under the finish lines. The first ones at about 200m were just to register you as part of your group. The rest on the route were to make sure that you didn't take any shortcuts.
  5. It's not often that I agree with Big H . But in this case I think that cycling in South Africa will be better of with a strong club system in place. Even for the "Moms & Pops". A strong club system will allow pressure to be applied wherever it is required. AS LONG AS THEY CAN STEER CLEAR OF THE "MY CLUB IS BIGGER THAN YOURS" TYPE POLITICS!!!
  6. very witty!
  7. And apparently contribute the most money to the running costs of the CSA. Significantly more than the other associations/organisations as stated by David Bellairs at the last AGM Where does all the money from the second biggest event go?
  8. It seems to me that this ruling pertains to RACES as opposed to FUNRIDES. Having never ridden any upcountry races/funrides I don't know what the deal is but from the postings it would seem as if all of the upcountry rides are considered RACES. In the W. Cape only people wanting & eligible to ride the league events are required to get a license. Seems a bit odd that the W. Cape can combine Funrides & Races but CGC can't.
  9. Get yourself a PT and a standard trainer (or rollers if you are brave enough). The only benefit of a computer trainer over the above is that it is visually more stimulating and that you can ride simulated rides. But in terms of achieving a training benefit a PT and trainer combination for indoor work is fine.
  10. Here is a site that will tell you exactly how much difference the additional weight will cost you. It's not as much as people think, but "every second counts" http://www.analyticcycling.com/ForcesLessWeight_Page.html For example, on Ou Kaapse Weg from the Sunvalley side (~ 7km), you'll save 76s if you could shed 5kg. That is quite a lot. Windbreaker2007-03-04 10:59:20
  11. You came across very well on Supercycling. Good luck with your endeavors particularly the national seeding system and setting up communication between all of the cycling bodies in the country. You are going to need it!
  12. Got images of these little nano-machines (soldier types) swimming around in my bloodstream kicking the sh*t out of the lazy red blood cells and another "worker version" of them with little energy "bubble" on their backs swimming in the opposite direction to deliver energy to the muscles most in need. mmmm...... time for that nap!
  13. Power Speed (not that I pay much attention to this) Cadence
  14. ... and if they give you any grief then take your shirt off!
  15. "...there are 9 million bicycles in Beijing..." and 1,313,973,713 people. One in every 1,314 people, roughly, has a bicycle.
  16. I agree that the commuters have to be the cornerstone of the drive but I don't see how their needs are different from ours. We face exactly the same issues. But that is a moot point. IanJ, I've never heard of the Safe Passing campaign and there are probably a few more of that I don't know of either. Maybe you can start a different thread which lists these organisations with contact details so those willing to add impetus to their efforts have a simple way of finding them??
  17. I remember someone claiming 20% improvement in "power" on this site. I see that a more believable improvement is quoted in this study http://www.rotorcranks.com/pdf/q-ringstest.pdf But it seems that to get the best results you need to analyse your pedal stroke with a utility called spinscan. Is this something that comes with a computrainer?
