  1. the gearing you got is 100%.... going from a 24 granny to 22 granny is pointless... Rather squeeze in 1 more ride a week to tweek the fitness and maybe drop 500grams around the belly..... and the 24 will be plenty low enough gearing!!!
  2. Burry broke his handlebars at illovo eston race in KZN the other day aswell??? Maybe he needs a piece of water pipe as bars!!??
  3. i was Uploading the weekend rides to garmin connect this morning and saturdays ride isnt reflecting? its saved in the history on the unit, but for some reason doesnt appear when uploading. This has happened before, but i just disconnected and tried again and it went through... but not this time??? Anybody experienced this?
  4. So, im guessing burry never won on the weekend???
  5. I'v heard the enduro seals are hard on the arm coating and cause premature wear?? anybody got first hand experience?
  6. What kind of life do you get out of a Fox fork (RL 29er to be exact)... i ride the bike about 3 times a week, total about 4 hours of which 2 hours on dirt average.... THe real training happens on the road bike !!!! the fork is 1 year old and had 1 service and still seems perfect?.... Why i ask is, i'v got my eye on some bike upgrades, but dont want to spend money on the bike if the fork is going to come to the end of its life.....
  7. There was still quite a bit a "liquid" sealant in there.... and i did a topup, but worries me a bit that the "good stuff" that actually makes the puncture plug, is now a "Coral reef" lying on my work bench!!!! Now Just milk rolling around in my tyres??.... I must say though, last week i got a proper puncture... sealant sprayed out, but it did seal...
  8. Anybody had their Stans start forming coral like balls in their wheels?? Heard something rolling around in both wheels, so checked it out and this is what the sealant was doing inside? Just over 2 months....
  9. Spotted this on the Niner website on thursday night..... emailed LBS friday moring to get price and due date?? He said he forwarded my mail to the agents, but no news?? anyone know when they will be here, and how much$$?? Current EMD is about R4500 and air nine R7500

    2012 Merida

Theres just something not right about those wheels though....... they just look too small!!
  11. Have you got the Garmin speed/cadence sensor?? it fits on the the chainstay on the non-chain side. the one side reads speed ie. magnet on spokes and the other side reads cadence ie. magnet on crank arm..... if these are there then you will get your speed and cadence even on your IDT (in door trainer) If you dont have the sensor, then your Garmin defaults its speed calculation from satalites...... which dont work in doors!!!!!
  12. I have Vittoria diamante pro light tyres that came on my bike.... they are paper thin and the website even says "For known good roads only"..... rode on them a hand full of time, punctured once, and put them in the cupboard... They are feather weight though!!!! GP 4000s very tough for a light tyre. But i had issues of the beading threads coming off!!??
  13. That wasn't a tantrum..... i'll get my 4 year old to show him how to throw a tantrum!!!!! jokes aside, that wasnt cool, and i bet he's liking his wounds now... BTW.... hasnt the lighter wheel/tire is faster theory been disproved anyway?? Sure if your wheels were concrete, but rubber vs rubber and ally vs carbon... for the grams in it they have proved there cannot be any human noticeable difference????? dont quote me... just do some googling!!!!
  14. How hard is it to clean your chain when using Chain L? ie. does it make your chain a well lubed big black mess that can only be cleaned with parafine, or can it be cleaned with bike wash soaps??
  15. I wish i still had my old Kuwahara and Cincoa (any body remember Cincoa?)
  16. Not sure if its changed, but i was in California in the 90's and in that state there was no law forcing you to wear a helmet on a motorcycle!!! owes crusing the highways on Harley's with no helmets!!!??
  17. Had XT brakes... reliable, but have an on / off feel. I'm guessing the SLX's are the same. Now got Avid Elixr CR's, which i think function exactly the same as the Elixir R's, but without the reach adjust. The Avids have an awesome controlled powerfull feel, but are a bitch to bleed if you dont know how. There is a trick to getting the bubbles outs. Google the youtube Elixir bleed video if you ever have to!!!But my vote goes Avid... if they are dialed in...
  18. I think MTB is going to follow a natural cycle.... in the last few years the sport has exploded. Natural demographics will put a cap on the number of MTB'ers, which i think its close to where it is now.. With the growth of the sport, has come a race just about every weekend in every part of the country. As of now, i think the races are going to have to compete with one another for numbers and prices will start dropping... I'v seen a few races already fall away here in KZN this year. Next year the calender will look very different.
  19. Sheeesh.... theit governments on the ball!!! good to hear.. just wish "thinking ahead" would cotton on here... All our fat cats think about is......... well... Can they think??
  20. Hmmmm.... i bet there a few Christchurch residence who might think taxpayers money should be heading in the direction of their earthquake stricken city instead of bike paths!!!
  21. If you on a 29er, beware the 2x10....... on long races or even training rides witbig hills at the end, the granny can be a life saver.. On a 29er, if you going 10sp, the Shimano 24/32/42 with a 11/36 at the back has you covered for all situations. Also, for everyday riding, with the 2x10 if you get the smaller front chainring option to address the climbs, then you run out of gears on the fast road sections on the way to the trails. Where i ride, we have about 10 fast km's to the trails and the guys with 2x10 spin out, while the guys on 3x9 or 3x10 have to sit on the front!!!??
  22. I dont know if the 10sp chainrings are thinner to accomodate the 10sp chain??
  23. Does anyone have any experience with upgrading to 10sp XT, but running with a 9sp front derailler and front shifter? So basicly, would it be possible to just change the Crank, right hand shifter and rear derailler, and obviously chain / cassette?
  24. Its not your wheels. iv tried the pads toed in, level, its all the same.... they shudder on mavic rims and squeel on Eastons!!
