  3. very high centre of gravity. if you have to brake in a hurry ... ENDO! the drivetrain is still connected to the bottom wheel. the rest just touches it the bottom wheels directly and indirectly, and turns with google "tallbike"

  6. you might also check out the frame alignment. but as JB said, all the parts(including rider) work together. change anything, and the problem most likely will disappear.
  7. i'm no mechanic, but i'll give it a try. 3 parts that cause it to happen. the deraileur, the shifter and the cable. most front derailurs are just about bomp-proof, except if something obvious is wrong(like a broken spring) quickest check : disconnect the deraileur. the deraileur is under tension to go to the small chainring, if it doesnt go back on its own if disconnected, it is broken. check if you can manually shift the deraileur by hand. if it does, it is the cable or the shifter check if the shifter shifts. (it does not at this stage, if it shifts, but feel scratchy, it might be a frayed cable. shift back and forth, and pull the cable back by hand. if the cable slides back freely, you will need to check the shifter. The indexing and shifting is dependant on the shifter. it it doesnt go back, most likely a broken shifter(but it can also be a really bad frayed cable)
  8. ok people, catch a wakeup. you think bicycles improved that much over the last 100 years. Thousands of these were made in the early 1900's. weight = 19 pounds, = 8.64 kg. 3 speed gears. broke many records http://www.dursley-pedersen.net/originals/various_img/1906_1/dursley1906a.jpg http://www.dursley-pedersen.net/originals/various_img/1902_1.jpg the tandem weighed 22 pounds = 11 kgs http://www.dursley-pedersen.net/originals/various_img/mdtandem.jpg more at http://www.dursley-pedersen.net/

  13. shamelessly cut and pasted (spoeg en plak) van http://www.mtbr.com/files/data/250.html The numbers are standard designations for aluminum alloys. Pure aluminum isn't the best material for many uses, most applications are for alloys. The 6000 series alloys uses silicon and magnesium to get their strenght, the 7000 series uses zinc. There are other series, with different additions. In addition to the additional elements, much of the material strength is controlled by post forming treatments. A combination of cold working, and heat treatments, they let you make a balance between a number of properties, such as strength, brittleness, and even corrosion resistance. These are designated by a T number following the alloy designation. (T4,T6,T10, etc) there are some more info if you click the link

  16. as long as the cassette is the same speed as the shifters, you'll be fine. the reverse also happens, people buy ultegra cassettes to use with their dura ace shifters
