  1. Isnt Tallboy technology old? I am also looking for a nice carbon DS trail frame and was advised that the TAllboy is a bit old tech. I would love a Camber Comp Spez but they dont sell frames only complete bikes. Giant is the best bang for buck but i find the design boring but its a very good bike.
  2. Just got back from my usual normal ride around signal hill and table mtn. I also saw the signs R500 for MTB on the trails. Ive been riding these trails for 12 years now and encounter all sorts on the mtn. I cannot understand how certain people can use it and certain people cannot. I run/walk my dogs and ride my bike on the trails its very sad that these bueracratic rules can be enforced to prosecute people enjoying the outdoors, whilst criminals still roam these same trails and are not dealt with in any way. If anything MTBers actually keep the Mtn safer for the other folk.
  3. They replaced the rear triangle with no quibbles so at least that was good from Pyga but still you would think a Pyga would be bombproof
  4. Just goes to show it really isnt about the bike
  5. Rode tokai on sat , the new singletrack trails "mamba?" and a few more were freaking awesome. Big up to the trailbuilders, you dudes are legends.
  6. To be honest sounds like the bike wasnt so great considering what its built for? A bit top heavy on downhills, bit sluggish, and not much fun.
  7. I would go trance and you have an extra 10 for a dropper and awesome wheelset.
  8. Ok seems like Pyga is the way to go then
  9. Yip that would have been a classy thing to do.
  10. Also consider a chinese carbon frame they very affordable, and you can spec it how you want.
  11. Where can i get assos in Cape Town?
  12. Might do this , my concern is will it be a huge field, not keen on riding with masses of people
  13. That was my 4th and by far the hardest, but count on me to be back next year.
  14. Hmm i know a few guys who bailed on the 65km route and did the 35km but there times are for the 65km. Bailout options were by the waterpoint before dead man climb and at the end of the longdownhill where the 35/65 split occurred. (nobody marshalled these point). Anyhoo i dont care about times but just letting you know. Once again thanks for a BRILLIANT day out on the bike. Best race by far.
  15. Where shoudl i start? 1. It was hot very very hot, my garmin said a max of 39 degrees, climbing dead man walking in that heat was probably the hardest thing ive ever done on a MTB. 2. The 58 oddkm of singletrack has got to be the best MTB route in SA. From start to finish all ST. As for the 10km downhill run was probably the best time ive ever had on an MTB. 3. The technical skills from most of the field was very impressive, normally at a "race" most of the field cant hop on a pavement, but the field at Eselfontein seem to be the most technically proficient riders i have ever seen. Downhill skills, river crossings, gnarly rocky climbs, not once did i see anyone unclip and push it was awesome. 4. The field was pretty small which made it even better it felt like i was all alone most of the time , for me that was one of the highlights, endless ST and nobody to clog it up. 5. Hats off to the organisers a brilliant ride which in my book is the best 1 day race in the western cape if not the entire SA. 6. I know its a bit of a clichy but this ride is truly a "Proper MTB Race" hardcore stuff no comprimise you dont like rocks, routes, drop offs , river crossings, fast flowing ST, rocky rutted descents you need not apply. I think i have sunstroke but it was a day i will never forget.
  16. I have read the reviews on these bikes on the international websites. The Ex 29seems like its getting some good reviews and people are raving about the new Remedy 29. I leaning more twds the Ex as Sa conditions favour that type of XC/trail bike vs a more enduro/all mtn bike. Has anyone in Hubland got any of these machines or have any knowledge of price etc.
  17. Hi Scuzzy mine is a meduim size 18 , i customized the look and added the decals then sprayed over it with clearcoart auto paint. Hammerhead is the name of my company. The frames come in matt carbon or gloss carbon. I also know that they can spray your frame to look like a big name brand if you keen on that. Mine was gloss but i see lots of matt ones and they look awesome. All questions will be answered on the chinese carbon thread. Its all legit the frames are very good and the order process with Hong Fu was painless and effecient. My frame arrived 6 days after i paid.
  18. I will be there cannot wait, highlight of the year for me.
  19. Get a chinese carbon i absolutely love mine. Frame cost me $360 and i ordered a carbon seat post and handlebars. Built it up with fox 100mm fork, ztr crest wheels and xt spec. weighs in at 9.95kg with the pedals. I have ridden it hard for the last 6 months and its awesome. The entire build cost me R18 500 Contact Hong Fu or locally www.carbon29er.com
  20. I will aslo be heading back from Eselfontein i cannot wait for this weekend
  21. Dude its a MTB ride just get on your bike and ride if its muddy its muddy . If you scared of mud go back to the road races im sure its nice and dry for you.
  22. Bi Tbc the bicycle company
  23. Consider Tallboy and Pyga and the Cannondale Trigger seem pretty handy
  24. Im very offended about the this post. Are you telling me i have no chance at winning the Argus? Maybe cause you in my way and when i shout MOOOOVE you dont, and the only reason you catch me on the next gradient is because i have to shout moove all the time and i get tired. Furthermore my strava shows that i am 3rd fastest from my fridge to my couch in my segment. Also my starva rides are surely monitored by all the cycle scouts out there..........arent they? And lastly the only reason the guy on the Raliegh overtook me is because my Pinarello grip was a bit wet and my hand slipped. So there at least i proved im not an Idjit............. Also im sure chicks dig oaks in lycra, so you must be wrong on that count, as when i enter a pub and order a skinny latte all the girls and most of the guys all stare at me.
  25. Personally i think the timing of the race was wrong. Ii was jammed right in the middle of the Argus/ Epic period and in the Heat of march in CT. I recall when i did it last year or 2 years ago its was 47 degrees. If the event was held during the quieter mths of say May - Aug it would of worked as a solid stand alone event without much competition. It could then develop its own character and vibe. As the Op stated it just did not have any identity. Then the weather is way more conducive to an event like this which is tough with lots of climbing.
