  1. I had both a HT and a DS. AFter 2 years of having both i realised every time i went for a ride I stared at both bikes and decided which one will i take today. AFter choosing the DS 9 times out of ten i eventually realised that i dont need a HT anymore. So i sold it. Modern DS bikes dont bob like earlier versions. ANd they much better downhill. Its great to learn skills on a HT as you need to choose lines and shift weight a lot more than sitting on a plush DS so aHT ups your skilss , then when you switch to a DS you can really rip a trail apart. So in the rocky Western Cape get a DS , if you live north of the Vaal a HT will probably be fine.
  2. Bought my WL set 2 weeks ago. My bike feels lighter and nippier. I have set many PB on climbs and the cornering ability of these wheels are insane. It's the best upgrade I have ever don. They roll so easily and they have such a wide contact patch that going downhill is very confidence inspiring. So chuffed I got them.
  3. I had a great "ride" but i wont be back i find these mainstream races have way to much traffic, prefer smaller races with limited numbers. The ST looked awesome but to much congestion couldnt really ride them like they deserved to be ridden.
  4. So whats the hubbers leaguie code so we can enter
  5. Amen to you mate. Brilliant idea good luck. Route profiles and a rating system of "tough, technical" eg 1 star for beginners to 5 stars experienced only etc etc
  6. Anthem is the way to go. You cannot go wrong.
  7. MTB actually stands for Multi Terrain Bicycle and not "Mountain Bike like we call it.
  8. I really loved this event. Small crowds, great riding, tough and rewarding. No lines for food , ST, toilets etc. It was a great 3 days of riding in a awesome part of our country. Well done to all involved. And Free beer
  9. Ill offer You R150k for 25% of the business. You just need someone to match my offer and you got what you wanted. Any other Dragons keen?

  11. Family, what i wouldve done for a family....
  12. Luxury....At least you could walk we had to crawl in the mud
  13. Riding at wine 2 whales a few years back i was chatting to Corne Krige whilst kakking off on a climb. I asked him (is MTB tougher than rugby? His answer. As hard as MTB is you can still get up and cycle the next day, when you have a tough rugby match you will not be able to play again the next day."
  14. Damn weather looking like shite heading to weekend it may be a mudbath
  15. In this order Bottlenecks, bottlenecks, bottlenecks and ja bottlenecks.
  16. Get a camber and put on a dropper post. Climbs as well as the epic and will descend as well as a stumpy. I have owned many bikes and to me the camber is in another league. Not sure why J bravo thinks its a big bike in switchbacks as for me i find it handles the tight stuff so easily. Each to their own i suppose. The Giant Trance is a good call and good value. But perhaps if you tight for cash just buy a dropper stick it on the epic and see how you go, if that doesnt work when you get a new bike just transfer the dropper to the new bike. A dropper will transform the descents for you.it really is such an underated piece of equipment
  17. ITs not a hard decision. Tru Cape is a great ride and is a lot shorter 50km. Problem is its become to congested for me as there is lots of technical singletrack but the majority of people cannnot cope with it, furthermore there is a short 25km loop that joins the longer route making the situation worse. ( Thats my take anway.) The GT is a lot tougher as its 15km longer and a good 400 m more climbing. But to be honest they are both awesome and its a pity we need to choose as they probably the best 2 races within a 80km radius of CT on the whole calender. Next year they must change the dates so they dont clash.
  18. I did it last year and it was a very lekker ride. I treated my family to a weekend of it and when you combine the room for 4 of us with dinner and breakies included and 2 days riding for approx R4k it was a superb value. If you just look at it from a riding perspective at R450 a day perhaps you are correct in saying its overvauled. My take was it s a nice weekend away in a luxury hotel and i got to ride 2 days of trails i had never ridden before. Wife hit the spa. kids ran around the estate and dad got muddy and dirty, perfect weekend for all.
  19. Agreed 100 percent to just pitch up on the trail and ride is worth every cent. 5 hrs of trail riding in the mountains is actually a priceless experience vs an average dinner wiith the missus for 450 bucks.
  20. Tru Cape used to be my best race on the calender, but i found that the route gets congested with the 25km riders sharing the same tracks and it becomes a bottlenecked. The route itself is awesome but the "quality of technical skills) by the participants is left wanting. Its a pity. So i will be heading off to 65km of hurt in wellington
  21. That Giant looks the biz
