  1. Hi guys, quick question regarding tyres for my XC bike. So I've got 2x Maxxis Forekasters 2.35, 1x Maxxis Ardent 2.25 and 1x Maxxis DHR II 2.4. I'm currently running the DHR II on the front and a Forekaster on the back which was lekker for the enduro I did last weekend but was really hard work for all the actual XC riding that I've done so I'm looking to change it up a bit. and I want your views on my other options. Namely: Forekaster F & R Forekaster F & Ardent R Ardent F & Forekaster R Which of the above options would you recommend?
  2. Maybe just in time for christmas?
  3. Yeah, almost had my front derailleur fall off during a race... Loctited that bad boy on now (until I get my 1x upgrade)
  4. Agreed. My general motto is "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing"
  5. As far as I can tell TP uses the heart rate zones that you set in your user settings (usually some model based on max HR or LTHR) to calculate what they call "hrTSS".
  6. Negative decoupling would happen when you output more power at a given heart rate in the second half of the ride versus the first half. For me, when this has happened, it has usually been because the first half of the race had some fast, sketchy sections (or skittish groups) that didn't require much power but got the heart rate up. Then things calmed down and/or required some proper power outputs in the second half.
  7. Bugger, there go my plans for an easy little trundle around
  8. It says they've added some new sections so my gpx files from the last two years won't be overly useful (they were both different too). But expect it to be flat and fairly windy if the last two years are anything to go by.
  9. In that case I might actually be keen to see them
  10. You say that but isn't Axl Rose AC/DC's vocalist now?
  11. If you are getting bounced off the pedals it means your technique isn't great (happened to me plenty when I first switched to flats). Flats also force you to learn proper technique for jumps, bunny hops etc. because you can't just pull the bike up like with the cleats. After moving to flats I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with them and just put the clipless pedals on for long races because there is definitely an efficiency advantage (probably won't bother if the race is <55-60km).
  12. When I say JIBAR is more volatile I just mean that it can fluctuate a bit rather than the Repo rate which only moves when the SARB Monetary Policy Committee changes it. It really isn't very volatile though, like the gap between the two only fluctuates by a few basis points. The graph below shows both rates over the last year: if you want to grab all the historical rate data, it is available at: Repo Rate (https://wwwrs.resbank.co.za/webindicators/ExchangeRateDetail.aspx?DataItem=MMSD008A) JIBAR (https://wwwrs.resbank.co.za/webindicators/ExchangeRateDetail.aspx?DataItem=MMSD502A)
  13. JIBAR is a bit more volatile than Prime/Repo so your interest rate will jump around a bit more with SAHL than with the banks. On average it should be around the same though (JIBAR is usually a bit higher than the Repo rate although it can drop below it when a rate cut is expected). Personally, go with the lowest interest rate. I've had bonds with Nedbank, FNB and Investec and they really are all much the same. It is a bit more convenient to have the bond at the same bank as your main account but not necessary. Make sure you go for the access bond option if possible and don't fix the interest rate (i.e take the Prime + x% (or JIBAR + z%) rate rather than the y% rate if that makes sense).
  14. No! After moving from rigid to a dropper I will never go back. NEVER!!!
  15. I've already got the Transfer (Performance so it's also black) and it's working fine. It's just time for its recommended 125 hour service but now I'm going to run it into the ground instead. Then when it breaks I'll look at replacing it with something else depending on what is available at the time. Did just buy a Lyne dropper for my girlfriend, literally arrived this morning and is sitting on my desk next to me. Going to install it this evening
  16. Yes, after the second service you could have just bought a new post instead. I acknowledge that you do not like the use of the word and have edited my post to change it.
  17. So I just feel the need to have a little rant about this (and I'm sorry if there is a thread about this already, not in the mood to search). Took my Fox Transfer dropper to my LBS for a service only to be told that they can't service it because there is some proprietary tool that is needed to open it up so it needs to be shipped off to Omnico and that's going to take about 10 days. Fine, not ideal but it is what it is. Then I am told that this service is going to cost R2,500. WT Actual F?!?!?! The seatpost is around R5k new so it's actually cheaper to ride the seatpost into the ground and replace it when it breaks than to service it. Maybe it's just me but that seems really stupid. Why even make the thing serviceable if it's easier and cheaper to just bin it when it breaks than to actually maintain it? Anyway, rant over. Just needed to get that off my chest. Edited to change a word that upset people
  18. If you have a Garmin with the Trainingpeaks app you can do it directly off TP (provided it is built as a structured workout in TP). I don't know off hand which Garmins support this but my 935, 945 and 820 all do.
  19. HIV test. 5000 points. And Robert is your mother's brother
  20. I really don't get the hate for saddle bags... They are super convenient. I use one on my road bike and the only reason I don't use one on my MTB is because I have a dropper post.
  21. Like Apple using Samsung to manufacture screens for it's phones?
  22. Looks a bit different: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/792265?units=km
  23. Also in AL for some unknown reason (last time I was in AL was Berge en Dale and I got dropped on the first hill ) I'm basically planning on hanging on desperately as long as I can.
  24. So I did my first half-marathon yesterday (Wally Hayward in Pretoria) which was the longest run I've ever done by almost exactly 7km. First 12km or so were lekker, had a bit of a "Why am I doing this to myself? I'm sick of here!" moment around 12-13km in but then I pulled myself towards myself and it was lekker again until about 19km at which point everything from my waist down started hurting. Finished in 2:08:30 which I was really happy with but today my calves are f**ked, can barely walk. At least I know I'll be able to finish the run at Ironman 70.3 in a month's time
