  1. Just as a side note, I would not recommend using the bladder for juice. Almost impossible to get the taste out afterwards. Rather use the bladder for water and the bottle for juice. My 2c.
  2. Just to add that it's not just the averages and maxes that go into the load and/or recovery time estimates. It's also the distributions, heavily weighted to time spent above threshold. For example, an hour workout at a flat 80% of threshold the whole time will not have the same load as another workout that also has an average of 80% but is 1/4 at 120% and 3/4 at 67%. In addition, the Garmin metrics are based around EPOC (as mentioned) which is a heart-rate based measure and heart rate can be very variable even for identical activities depending on sleep, temperature, caffeine or alcohol consumption, dehydration etc. For example I've done similar rides for each of the last two Sundays on the 17th, my average power was 176W and my average HR was 148bpm but on the 24th, my power was 191W with a HR of 142bpm.
  3. Yeah, I had one of those Rinnai water heaters installed in my place earlier this year. I got the 26l/min one and it happily does both showers at the same time. The gas doesn't really work out any cheaper than the electricity for the geyser it replaced though but at least you're not reliant on Eskom (although it does require a plug point with power to light the gas so you do need a backup power system of some sort to use it during loadshedding). Only down side is when the gas runs out half way through a shower and you need to run out and change over to the spare tank.
  4. Based on @shaper's post earlier of a 4.75W/kg rFTP for a 37min 10k. Assuming a 4.75W/kg cycling FTP would put you as a very good to excellent amateur but not quite good enough to be a domestic pro based on Coggan's table (that you can see here: https://www.cyclinganalytics.com/blog/2012/06/watts-kg-on-the-power-curve) The big caveat here is that running and cycling FTP are not comparable so assuming both are 4.75 is a stretch.
  5. We should also add that not all companies use the same definition of power for running. i.e. Garmin says they measure "propulsive power applied at the road", whereas Stryd measures the "positive mechanical energy". So you get very different running FTP measures from the different devices as well (one study I saw showed about a 30% difference).
  6. No idea on the first question because I'm nowhere near that level. I'm currently about a 50-52 minute 10k. As to the second one, no, they are nothing alike. E.g. my cycling FTP is about 250W whereas my running FTP is like 390W (based on a Garmin chest strap with Forerunner 955). My current weight is 83-84kg if you want to look at W/kg measures.
  7. Yeah, scope creep is a bastard. I started with a shitty 5KVa inverter with a 6KWh lithium battery last year (wired in to the DB already) and I just put down the deposit on an 8.8KVa inverter, another 14KWh of battery and a stack of solar panels... My bank account is having a quiet cry but I'm so over the loadshedding and Eskom.
  8. Agreed, the 2.35 Forekaster is super narrow (very noticeably narrower than the 2.35 Ikon). Hopefully the 2.4 is better.
  9. Eh, horses for courses. I've got clipless on my road (SPD-SL) and XC (SPD) bikes and flats on my enduro (OneUp pedals and 5-10s) bike. I've crashed my enduro bike once because my foot came off the pedal and I've crashed the XC bike 5 or 6 times because I couldn't unclip fast enough (I've had the XC bike a lot longer and ridden it more) so much of a muchness. Technique you learn riding flats helps be more in control on clipless but not the other way around.
  10. It would be useful to know where in the country you are before giving recommendations.
  11. Yeah, it should be 15% duty (complete bikes) and (1.15 * 1.1 * 0.15) = 18.975% VAT (15% of 110% of the value after adding duties). Although if you're lucky they sometimes don't apply the duty and then it's only 16.5% VAT (as above just assuming 0 duties). Your mileage might vary trying to import it using your ID number rather than an importers code although getting an importers code is pretty quick and easy (fill in a few forms, go to a customs office and then wait a week or so was my experience).
  12. But why? The frame would be completely crap for everything. It would be way too heavy as a road bike and/or way too flimsy as a MTB. You don't need the same gear range for Road vs MTB. You don't have the same geometry across bike types either so 1 frame for everything would be useless.

    Rugby...

Also how can Habana not be in that team? Maybe not ahead of Lomu but definitely instead of Howlett
  14. My bad, read it as a reply 🤦‍♂️
  15. On the Garmin page it says it can sync with Spotify, Deezer and Amazon music. No idea about directly loading mp3s though. They have historically been pretty useless in this regard. The responses I've gotten previously boiled down to "it will get here when it gets here".
  16. Was asking more about timing than pricing. But yeah, I reckon your guestimates are on the low side if anything.
  17. Embarrassingly, I went or my first MTB ride in almost a year this last weekend 😳 so no, I haven't been using it. Was spending all my time on the road bike for half Ironman (and then it went and got cancelled)
  18. Anyone willing to speculate on when they will get to the good ol' RSA?
  19. Specifically for MTB the 530 will integrate with Trailforks for routing etc, https://www.trailforks.com/garmin/
  20. Yeah, I found that the Ikon 2.35 is much wider than any of the Ardent, Ardent Race or Forekaster 2.35s. To the point where it looks silly if you have the 2.35 Ikon on the back and one of the others on the front.
  21. Apparently she had a big crash on Lap 2 then just nursed it to the finish according to her IG.
  22. But the supertuck is banned so there shouldn't be top tube issues anyway...
  23. It runs East-West through where the N1 crosses the Jukskei a bit south of Midrand.
  24. I've got one on my XC bike and it would be a bit of a waste if I didn't spend a bunch of time on the road with this bike. Off road it's kinda useful for longish, relatively smooth, not too steep climbs but otherwise it's not particularly useful on the ride. Looking at the data afterwards is as useful as you make it I guess.
  25. Looks awesome. Apparently there was a race there this last weekend (similar course, not 100% the same though) as a sort of warm up and the track was wet. Neff won by over 6 minutes from some pretty good rivals: 1st. Jolanda Neff: 1:26:08.526 2nd. Laura Stigger: 1:32:10.996 3rd. Evie Richards: 1:32:33.266 4th. Kate Courtney: 1:33:24.694 5th. Sina Frei: 1:33:42.964
