  1. I found a pair of Specialized gloves at the bike wash at the Tokai parking today. If they're yours, let me know. Otherwise, does SANParks have a trustworthy lost and found person I can hand them to?
  2. So I am now officially completely disappointed with the Specialized Concept Store in Cedar. These guys have all the shiny new stores but its service attitude stinks. I went in there two weeks ago on the off chance that they would have a CX specific 35 mm tire i was looking for. It turned out that they did have in country and after chatting to Conrad he said no problem he would order them for me and they would be there in 3 days. I walked out with a big smile as not only were they what i wanted but 2Bliss as well. What a win. Happy customer. We'll call you when they are here. 2 weeks on. No tires No Calls Every time i phone them its the same. We've been invoiced for them, they will be here next delivery etc. When is suggested that they maybe call Specialized and tell them that they are holding up a new bike build and i want these tires, they looked at me as if i was mad. What? Why would you do that? No - never. Just wait until the next delivery. So the problem is again - shiny new store populated by the same poor excuses for human beings that the cycling industry attracts. I have 2 x Specialized bikes hanging in my garage, plus multiple pieces of their after market kit. I love their equipment. But their brand is being done a disservice by Conrad. I wanted those tires. They fitted exactly in to my plans and the store didn't order them specially, they were in stock and no problem to get according to them. So go in there with eyes open.
  3. Hi hubbers, I have a pair of brand new and unused Specialized Roval wheels which I am looking to sell. Can anybody help me out how much these go for? They were taken off of a 2014 Spez Epic comp, wasn't even put on the bike. Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.
  4. Hi, I'm looking at a Specialized for my next bike. I just wanted to know from a service level, which Specialized shop (Elite or Concept) has offered the best services in your opinion? I'm based in Illovo, so not too interested in shops in outside Johannesburg, but maybe for everyone's sake, it could be discussed. Thanks.

Hi All, Im not sure if I should start a new topic, but the other ones have so many replies it makes it very hard to see what to do (like 150 pages of replies). In short I'm looking for a bike suitable for Enduro style riding. So far I have the following down to consider: Specialized Enduro 29" Santa Cruz Bronson C X01 spec Santa Cruz Nomad C X01 spec Pyga 140 - X01 Groupset, 160mm Pike RC3 up front, SRAM RS Guide brakes (180mm front /160mm rear) (XT group set also an option for a few grand less) Giant Trance Advanced Yeti SB66/SB95/SB75 all options - just waiting for the Yeti dealer to get me quotes Any thing else you guys know of that we can get here (Im not keen on importing, I would like to have one of my local bike shops supporting and being able to maintain the bike)
  6. Just been in Olympic cycles and apparently they are having a big sale tomorrow on all things Spez. Bikes to helmets to gloves, in fact anything with a big 'S' gets a big discount. Just thought I'd share it about.
  7. Hi there guys can someone help I bought a 2010 specialized allez comp road bike my problem is that before I bought it I phoned a bike shop to make shore the size is right so I need some info I'm 1.86m tall and the frame size is 57cm now I've riding the bike and its the best smooth comfartably ride I've evr had but I don't want to look strange me so tall on a small bike and the seat is so high so any advice
  8. Hello fellow cyclists :-) I'm looking for some advice & your opinion please. I's a road cyclist, been cycling for 5 yrs & enjoying it (ride 100 to 125 every Sunday morning, riding a Silverback Space 2.0, full carbon, Ultegra), but recently thought I'd start looking into getting into some mountain biking on a Saturday to try & build up some strength & if I start enjoying it, then maybe also do some MTB races in the future, but for the moment more to just do some basic riding in JHB on a Saturday morning. Been doing my research, & visiting a few cycle shops & there is a wealth of info out there, enough to confuse anybody. I was initially convinced that I was going to get a 29er, but over the weekend, I tried getting onto a Titan 29er a small frame (http://www.titanracingbikes.com/29relite.html) & there is no space in-seem wise, so I'm beginning to think that maybe a 29er maybe be too big for my height size. (I'm 167cm tall). I was also looking at the following bikes: Specialized Rockhopper @ R8999. http://www.specialized.com/za/en/bikes/mountain/rockhopper/rockhopper-29#manuals Silverback Sola 4 @ R6999 http://www.silverbacklab.com/upload/2011_website_SILVERBACK/sola4_14.htm Titan 29er Elite @ R10k http://www.titanracingbikes.com/29relite.html So based on the above, what do you guys think? Am I too short for a 29er & will I battle on this size of bike, should I go with a 650b, or just go with the 29er. Also, any other tips to look or for (i.e. Air shock is a must, 8, 9 or 10 speed) or recommended bike to look at (budget is +/- R10k) Thanks in advance...

  10. Hi Guy's Decided going the specialized route and looking at these two options. Marathon has nice group set and comes with swat included as well as two cages. WC is 1x11 which I quite like for simplicity but not sure if I will miss the 2X 10 combo. Getting back into cycling after two year break and need to build fitness from start again.(big accident) Intentions to ride trails and longer events with stage races about twice a year. Opinions and advice greatly appreciated. WC is slightly cheaper than Marathon.
  11. I notice more and more bike manufacturers are getting involved in trail building and maintenance.Specialized has for a while been involved in Jonkershoek and recently I heard Rocky Mountain getting involved in Contermanskloof and a few other bike parks around SA.(not forgetting the local clubs as well as the guys of Table mnt doing great work). It's great that the bike manufacturers are putting money back into the sport in this way that is a benefit to all.A few weeks ago at Jonkershoek I noticed Scott also involved with the trails at Jonkershoek so a big up to all these guys.Carry on with the good work.
  12. Hi guys Currently have Shimano 2300 (8spd) on my Specialized Secteur. Been riding for about 2 years now and feel like it's time for an upgrade. Have got no issues with the brakes or crank (compact), but the shifting is starting to bug me. Also would like to get a wider range cassette, maybe something like a 11-26 (13-26 current). Don't have a fortune to spend, so my question is is it worth it to upgrade to Tiagra components, or should I hold out and replace with 105's? Thanks
  13. Why do cyclists always complain about how close a car comes to them, when passing, but yet they are willingly to put their lives in danger? Yesterday on my way back from a ride just after 10am, I was driving along Parklands main in Blouberg. A row of cars came up behind a group of 10 odd guys on MTB's, wondering what the motorist was doing, I was looking up ahead and watched as the group rode half next to each other, half behind and some even 3 up, "totally oblivious" to the cars behind them.I watched as half the group ramped the pavement and the other half swerved into the road, without so much as a glance over their shoulder, to overtake a MyCiti bus parked in its normal parking/stop area. It took some time before the one vehicle attempted to pass with no oncoming traffic, but not knowing what the cyclists were going to do, the driver did not want to take a chance. After about 100m I hooted to which the reaction from the group was to look around in shock and suddenly make an effort to fall in line. All the cars passed safely with no further delay or issue. Why oh why, on R40 - R100k bikes in our Specialized gear, do we ride so selfishly and irresponsibly? The 1m rule is not there to be abused by riding abreast and irritating other road users to the extent that I will bear the brunt of a motorist who has had enough of obnoxious groups of cyclists who bitch and moan at them because they are so vulnerable. Wake up people, you are solely to blame if you ride like an idiot. If you hear someone shouting out to ride in single file, its probably me, stay off your high horse and do it. Talk after the ride over coffee, for goodness sake. Disclaimer: I do not know the people involved. It is of no use to request they are contacted by "their" LBS, so this topic is intended to single out us riders and make sure that we start to educate ourselves and our fellow riders properly before we lose someone due our own stupidity. PS. Edited for spelling
  14. Not sure if this has been posted before. This is the new S Works SL5 http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2014/04/28/1398710552426-1ueo3r6ste0ti-670-80.jpg
  15. Cant find the gumtree classics thread. Am i being paranoid Please view this ad: SPECIALIZED S.WORKS, http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/bellville/specialized-s-works/1001129633800910263742209 Price: ZAR 30,000
  16. Hi Everyone, Hope you can shed some light on this for me. I recently converted to Tubeless on my 2014 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp (Carbon) which is all stock standard. However over the weekend was riding with a group and someones tubeless tired had burped when she hit a big water pipe in the sugar cane which fully deflated her tired and the bead came off the side wall. I wasn't there at first but they tried to bomb it and inflate tire but could not reseal it to the rim and was forced to put a tube in. Is there a special tricks to when that happens to get it sealed back up or is the only way to put a tube in? Kind Regards, Tim

  19. Hi, Does anyone know the price of the Specialized Pro XC 2014 MTB shoes? Need a price in Rands to see if it's worth buying them in the US ($275) or if they are cheaper in SA
  20. Contrary to my initial thoughts about using my Specialized Paris Roubaix for IM switz I've found myself shopping around for a NEW but affordable tri bike. Main priority is comfort and efficiency, not paranoid about weight and top of the range parts. Deep section wheels will be decided at a later stage (maybe renting). Looking at a Cervelo new P2 (2014 model) as they are reasonably priced and have pretty decent equip specs. Also tried a Cannondale Slice 3 spec'd with Ultegra Waiting for an official quote and availability from the dealer but these 2 should be more or less in the same price bracket New P2 - comes with quite a good parts choice. Cannoncookie Slice 3 - parts not quite as good as the Cervelo and also not sure about the Vision cranks? Anyone got some feedback on these 2 bikes? http://www.cervelo.c...-series/p2.html
  21. I have a pair of Lake MX170 MTB shoes with the Boa cable lacing system & the dial on the one shoe has got stuck & won't tighten the cables. Does anyone know where I can get the special Boa tool to open the dial to investigate what the problem is? I watched a Youtube video & it seems that there's a small tool with a yellow handle that is needed to loosen the dial to open it up. The tool fits into the centre of the dial & is loosened by turning anti clockwise.I think some Specialized shoe models also use the same cabled lacing system. Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of the Boa tool here in Cape Town?
  22. My father in law came off on Monday up on one of the single tracks in tokai. Firstly thank you to the couple who phoned us off my dads phone. (hope you are reading this). You were a great help. Then the guy with the specialized stumpjumper expert HT (he lives in Tokai). Thank you for staying with him till I got there and stayed on and rode with me down. Just some news on my dad (crazy fearless 60 year old). He broke his neck, two of the vertebrae in his lower neck broke, one broke badly and VERY almost paralyzed him as seen on CT scan..... He is being operated on tomorrow morning. They are fusing the vertebrae that are affected. THANK YOU for your help in a huge way!. Hope to see you out there again. Rolf
