  1. Hi Hubbers, I have been running my SRAM X0 (2X10) setup in the picture below. I've had a few setbacks and would like to move away from SRAM. Is it possible to retain the cranck in some way or form and purchace a XT1x11 groupset and marry the two without spending to much $? New xt crancks are expensive and there is not much wrong with the crank arms. Can anyone propose a product or two that I can use to retain the crank and run XT?
  2. Hi there everyone! I want to upgrade my current mtb groupset and yes as always weight plays a big role. Currently running Shimano XT 1x11 and Simano XT brakes. Best way to upgrade? *XTR *XO1 *XX1 Please share thoughts and is it worth spending that extra money for better groupset?
  3. I'm looking for the above front derailleur I can find a down pull but not the top pull ... does the dual pull work from the top. I have trolled the Shimano sites stukkend !!! I have gone to a 24/34 crank from 26/38 and my M985 is not quite right due to the bump from small to big. the e-type has the 2 mount holes so if you know. fits to my Pivot Mach 429
  4. Sitting between the granite-hewn professional racers and the weekend warriors you’ll find a group of highly competitive and highly skilled mountain bikers. These are the privateers and the self-supported riders. These are the riders who put the hours in to keep themselves race-fit and have the skills to test themselves against the best. These are the amateur mountain bike racers. And these are the riders Shimano had in mind when it developed DEORE XT Di2 M8050. Click here to view the article

  7. Since posting my recent acquisition of the new Di2 XTR on another thread, there have been a number of calls for an honest "commoners" review. Hopefully I can do it justice. Here goes... Click here to view the article
  8. Given the amount of time that most of us spend looking at our handlebars, it's no surprise that we appreciate a tidy cockpit. Happily, companies like Shimano and SRAM agree- and have provided for accessory mounting in their brake lever designs. Click here to view the article

  10. Hi All. Time for new pedals... VP power bearings are done. Have wide feet and using wide shimano shoes. Currently using 2 washers on vp power pedals so my shoes don't rub on the crank arms. Was told I need to get rid of the washers as they could eventually strip the thread on the arms as there isn't much of the pedal axle going in. I have been looking for the Ultegra 6800's, with the 4mm longer axle but cannot find stock. Shimano SA doesn't have anything and CRC is also out of stock and have no idea when they will receive stock. So anyone know of a shop that could have 1 set of Ultegra SPD 6800 with 4mm longer Axles on their shelves ? I can get get the DA 9000's for about R600 more than standard Ultegra's but would like to keep the pedals matching with my groupset. And I would assume that there isn't a massive difference between the 2. Thanks.

  12. Can anyone advise if Cool Heat (distributors of shimano in SA) are experiencing distribution and pick up problems in the the Gauteng area over the last week? My Local LBS advises me Cool heats Driver has "absconded" and has not been replaced?
  13. It seems there are pros and cons to both of these systems. But which are the best to live with day to day, easiest to use and clean and overall better and more reliable performance. I'm upgrading to a new bike and considering upgrading from Shimano SPD pedals to Egg beaters. Advice?
  14. In this mini documentary we follow Greg Minnaar, South African downhill legend, in his quest for his fourth rainbow jersey. He knows how to win it, he knows how to put it all together in the final run. It's his specialty. But can he do it again in Vallnord, Andorra, during the 2015 World Championships? 16. I've finally gone carbon. (Scott hard tail MTB) But I didn't buy cleats when I bought the bike, as I already broke the bank by going over budget and was overwhelmed by the choices in cleats. My past bikes I've just gone with the standard middle of the road Shimano cleats. I need new cleats. Seen Crank Bros, Shimano, and Look (Which I havn't seen since the 90s as a brand). What does one look for in a cleat system? I ride twice a week off road, mainly jeep track and getting into single track. Please some advice.
  17. First Look Friday is an introduction to the products that we are currently testing for review. This week we're featuring the Shimano R088 road shoe, Dirt Apparel riding shirts, 661 Exo Knee/Shin and elbow pads, and Mio Velo heart rate monitor. Click here to view the article
  18. I've always looked at posts when people asked 'how much is my bike worth' and wondered how they couldn't know a rough value. Now I'm in the same position and actually don't have much of a clue what my 2011 Shimano 105 5600 (Black) is worth on the market. It's the group set but with out the BB or crank but includes: - Brakes - 11/ 28 Ultegra cassette (+/- 400kms) - STIs - Front mech - Rear mech - Chain (sub 300kms) - Cables I'd say the condition is about 7.5 out of 10. Some scrapes on the STi's and from being knocked over by the automatic gate are the only issues. The shifting is still crisp and sharp and the brakes have Swiss stop pads. So brains trust of the hub... what would this go for? I've looked through past sales and there is quite a range.
  19. I'm hoping some experts out there can assist me with this... I'm running a 10 speed campy groupset except my crank which is FSA. Due to campy casette's and chains not being available freely and being very expensive, I'm toying with the idea of using a SRAM casette and chain with my campy shifters and deraileurs? Who has experience in this as how well this will work? I'm told that SRAM will work better than Shimano as the casette spacing is closer as well as chain width. Any other suggestions will also be welcome!
  20. Shimano is giving road cycling consumers even more advantages over the pro’s with a new milestone in braking technology. The introduction of Shimano’s new 105 grade hydraulic disc brake, combined with a flat mount caliper, brings high performance stopping power to the sportive rider, making for a safer and superior road cycling experience. 22. Does anybody know of a place that does custom heat molding for Shimano shoes in the Johannesburg area? I emailed Cool Heat a week ago and they haven't graced me with a response yet :-/
  23. OCD getting the better of me, I decided to upgrade my front derailleur to Shimano XT since everything else on my drivetrain is XT (also recently upgraded the shifters). I went for the top swing, top pull M785 model XT. Depending on where you buy, you get it for around R500 – add or take R50 depending on whether someone is running a special or not. The old mech is a M675 SLX – also top swing, top pull. Both mechs are clamp on by the way. I finally got some time this weekend to install the new mech but after taking the SLX off the bike I noticed it looked very similar to the XT, in fact a little too similar. Have a look at the pics below (the dirty one is the SLX). The SLX is 2 grams heavier but is probably the muck on there I couldn’t be bothered to clean off. I'm not a weight weenie but were trying to figure out why the XT would be better specced and more expensive, as the SLX is R100 cheaper. These mechs are identical in every way. Maybe the photos don’t show it but trust me; they are exactly the same. I feel a little done in by this… really. It’s not about the money but what irks me is buying something “better” and more expensive just to find out it is exactly the same as the cheaper or do I dare say “inferior”. Just some advice should anyone be in the market for a new front derailleur... Anybody have similar experiences they want to share?
  24. So my XT brake lever died (M785). I disassembled it (including the parts you are not supposed to disassemble) and basically it's buggered. Frustration is that Shimano do not bring individual levers into the country anymore. sooo does anyone have one going begging somewhere I can buy? Or does someone have one with a broken blade that I can have (or salvage parts off)
  25. I'm looking to upgrade to Shimano XT shifters. I noticed i spec shifters and like the fact that they bolt straight to the brake lever. As far as I can tell it doesn't have the gear indicator line but not a big deal for me. I very much like the simplicity and "clean" look (only one clamp each side on the cockpit). So now here is the thing: How can you check to see if the brake lever is i spec compatible? Bike is a 2014 Anthem X1 with stock SLX brakes (don't have the exact model number at hand) - it is a new bike so I'd assume it will be fine BUT we all know assumption is the mother of all... Hope someone can shed some light on this - thanks!!
