When I was still working in Pretoria, our offices were 4 floors under ground.  I would not normally use the left if there are other people using it as well.  I would then rather take the stairs.  But with a stop at the other floors and me running up the stairs with the bike on the shoulder it often happened that I would be at the top before the rest of the crowd in the lift.  The view on their faces when they walk out of the building and I am already outside was always very entertaining.

No wonder you decided to emigrate.   ;)

Have been commuting every saturday since the beginning of september. Its not a long commute, 16.6km one way, but it takes me to the top of Fisher Hill and down in the morning and then back up Fishers in the afternoon after being on my feet the entire morning.

the result. On 1 September i needed to climb fishers using 30x28 and I still suffered, this saturday, even though I suffered, I climbed it using 40x24 and then still did 50km on Sunday.

I'm rather enjoying it, my colleagues think I'm batshit crazy, but who cares.

Commutes and hills are a VERY special love-hate thing ....

In the morning I have the little Suikerbossie in Blomtuin, and then the not so little climb up Bill Bezuidenhout ..... In a perfect world I SHOULD walk these two hills, and get to the office without any sweat (no shower facilities).... HOWEVER, I like pushing just that little bit harder up Suikerbossie each day .... lately been staying in the saddle up Bill Bezuidenhout as well - and I dont even mind the basin-and-cloth ritual afterwards .....

In the afternoon I have to climb that silly short and STEEP hill past Eskom's Bloemhof facilities ..... NO, no more sitting and grinding the granny (which I could barely manage 18 months ago)....  NOPE, now I am mid in the front mid at the back, stand and POWER that sucker up that hill !!  Catch my breath for a few seconds down Suikerbossie, then ride over the footbridge, also a little devil in its own right .... now time for some speed up the slight incline until I get to Bloemendal, and then it is another round of "mid-gears", this time sitting and WORKING those pedals until my heart rate gets to the zone 4 or 5 as I get to the top of the hill .... gears to max and power donwhill for the next 1,5km home .... short but powerfull little workout !

And the last two weeks I had to carry the bike up and down two floors of stairs while the lift was out of action .... the lift is back in operation, but I still walk the stairs.  Must be going of my rocker ... beginning to push myself up the stairs to elevate my heart rate ....

sure these damned cycling helmets kill off our good brain cells ....

We have at the moment a pretty warm Autumn with super weather.  It means we have a SA winter (up in Pretoria in anyway) which is cold in the mornings and mild in the afternoon.  I noticed that I clock faster times in the afternoon going home than in the morning going to work.  (Normally is should be the other way around as it is more "downhill" to work than back).  I guess the old muscles just don't perform the way they should when it is cold.

Doing daily updates aimed at ppa to document all traffic offenses I spot split cyclist vs car.

It’s very one sided at moment

That means you are not holding you handle bar with both hands as you are constantly dotting down the offences.  Shame on you.  :whistling:  ^_^
