I couldn't be bothered reading the entire thread but my views here.

1. People start way too fast, they immediately tap in to their energy resources where there is little energy, the kidney area.

This leads to them running out of steam/energy very quickly.

2.Start slower, now if you start slow and still bonk, then the problem is dietary, prior to and during the event, there are loads of online sites that will give advice as to exactly what and when food needs to be consumed.

3.People need to stop doing events that they don't train for, stupidity can't be fixed with food.

As for the TNT and MDW debacle, I can see how some can get annoyed when they have something shoved down their brains at every given opportunity, I am all for an aggressive marketing approach ,but it can get to a point where it just becomes too much and people start ignoring it or even worse, turn negative,

Coke only made me bonk once, I took two lines instead of one. Ask Tom Boonen, the same happened to him.

I also did the 70km on Future Life & 32Gi only - went okay but not as what I liked it to be.

Lesson I have learned is that these 2 won't get you through the race feeling okay. I have taken notes on what has been said in the replies and will eat something more substantial - makes more sense.

of all the breakfast in a box that one keeps me filled up the longest. I done loads of long distance races only on future life and energy drink and only recently started eating on the bike. I think the problem was hydration in general due to the heat, or a lack of training.

Funny that, I was thinking that a lot of other stuff was “shoved down” on this thread i.e. Coke, what to eat, how to ride, how to train....

In defence of MDW who is clearly linked to 32GI and as a result tends to advertise it, I would NOT say he does this in an excessive manner and contrary to those who have obviously not followed his posts..... or know zip about the product.....

I have found his posts to contain some informative and helpful information wrt to nutrition, yes even after +20 years of doing endurance sports its always possible to learn something new.

I used it as an example and yes it applies to many things here on this forum.

I will agree that MDW has much informative information and his posts are a great help, especially to those who simply don't unerstand their bodies.

Yes Covie I have, and I was a product analyser and tester for some major supplement companies for a while, I have bonked more than 50 times in the last 10 years on product testing, experimentation etc, the point I am making by the post is that I was still performing at a high rate, actually to be honest my PB's came on it. However a large part of anyones regime is to be focussed on daily nutrition, daily training, and I always advocate a supplement is ONLY that a supplement to a healthy regime, it aint a quick fix by any means, that will always be my stance. I dont want to go into product comparisons etc, it really gets a bit much, i inform and thats it, in the end the individual needs to experiment and decide.
