Day 5 -- Champix really does help..feeling ok...a bit run down but I'll push through it . I have tried the Champix before but I think I almost expected the tabs to magically solve everything. Read "The Easy Way" which changed some dumb mindsets that I had and also got rid of the fear of quitting

I started the pack at 1 a day 0.5 mg and when it went up to 2 x 0.5mg I felt strong enough to quit completely. I have experienced a bit of nausea but I will take nausea over Lung Cancer everyday of the week.

I havent had any real cravings to speak of but I am very weary of getting over confident.

I have to keep reminding myself to happy that I have quit but mentally I believe that the battle has only just begun.

.KAKKEST habit there ever was!!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone on this thread that contributed. Keep going...

I'm keen to give Champix another go. Last time it made me seriously depressed tho so I'm a bit weary. I reccon I just need to HTFU and cold turkey this thing.

Dont know why but Fanta orange seemed to help me with the nausea

Cheers Fanie but I have decided that the benefits far outweigh the side effects of something that is helping me quit. I will deal with the nausea...

Pieter I decided to quit first and then decided to use the Champix to help. The depression is one of the side effects of quitting. I have been feeling a bit lethargic and havent changed anything else. Still riding etc. but battling to concentrate and focus, but I dont care. I am using every bit of difficulty or discomfort to serve as an eternal reminder to never touch the stuff again. I will list a few of the symptoms here:

  1. My sleeping has been affected and I wake up most nights..TOUGH.

  2. I have experienced nausea shortly after taking the tab and about an hour after TOUGH

  3. Feeling irritable and empty TOUGH

  4. Feeling tired, restless and having difficulty concentrating TOUGH

  5. Slight mood swings..TOUGH

  6. Increase in appetite ..TOUGH

  7. Sweet cravings ..TOUGH

My mindset is that no matter how hard or uncomfortable things get I will not cave. Despite these challenges I am relieved and grateful not to be smoking. The harder things get the more determined I am to never go through it again.

Pieter when I read about your struggles on this thread they inspired me to quit for once and for all. I hope that sharing my experience here will inspire you somehow. Best of luck Mate..you can do it!

Very interestingly my sleeping has improved leaps and bounds. Anyone out there that has been thinking about quitting...GO FOR IT!!

Thanks for the support fanie!

Looks like I am one of the lucky ones, I quit smoking after almost 8 years and I didn't have any troubles doing so!

Rode with some ace guys last weekend - couple of them were smokers. Darned handy it was too, gave me a chance to get my breath back. Would never have managed to keep up and finish without their smoke breaks.

Health aspects ... well that's all pretty well known. Each to their own I say. Just try asking me to give up coffee and you'll see how an addict reacts

DAY 19 : Feeling good , no craving, no issues. Went for a 40 k road ride and felt super strong. No irritabilty, no sweet cravings. I have maintained my diet and training and nothing has changed. I highly recomend kicking the habit for boost to the self esteem and pure riding pleasure.

The depression is a side effect of the champix not the quitting (if I recall it was originally classed as an anti depressant drug)

Right...I see a lot of love for the e cig on here as a replacement tool. Additionally i see a lot of times it being advertised as safe smoking, and while it had been proven so, it is still promoting an addiction to nicotine which is the only reason you smoke. Nicotine is responsible for the good feeling and the addiction.....Now the problem is a lot of kids are also starting to smoke them..and they are not cheap...so when they can't afford them..where are they going to turn for there nicotine addiction....normal cigs of course!

Nicotine replacement therapy has very poor success rates..remember that..your best chance at a quit is cold Turkey whether you like to hear it or not
