I fitted a Maxxis Assegai up front and yoh, that thing flings mud like a fat man's fork at a free buffet. But it grips tighter than my wife's grab on my wallet when payday rolls around.

How good is the grip on loose stones and soft going uphill

that will not be enough to kill a DHR any time soon. If ridden as intended, the trail would do tyre in long before any tar would. Enjoy the rides with your kiddo. I ride with my 5 y.o. as well and that is much more valuable to me than potentially having to replace some rubber every now and then because of it.

You were meant to tell me I should get another bike with a more appropriate tyre.😃

But thanks, yes agree its worth it.

There's a very good reason the whole world rates the Assegai as the top tyre to have. It sticks to everything like stink sticks to a turd. It's very grippy and confidence inspiring. The evidence is in the pudding they say. According to Strava I'm going to be having a good Enduro at Jonkers since I started getting PB all over the place after I  went with this choice of tyre up front.

Thanks. I saw some at a clients house ans saw on the back it's good. I'm struggling to go uphill on stones with crossmarx. The torque is to much a d the grip to little. So we spin. And it drains you.

Bit of a dumb question - How bad will a road ride chow a tyre like a Maxxis DHR? Like just 5KM a week or so.

Obviously the bike is for trails but enjoy riding it around with my kiddo.

I ride about 7km to the trails on tar road (and 7 back) and the DHR (which I run up front) has lasted pretty well. Might depend on the compound too. I think I have the harder compound. But the DHF on the rear has also lasted well. About 2500km on them so far with a fair bit of tar road usage due to getting to the trails and back. I was more worried about losing side knobs initially, but like dasilvarsa I don't lean the bike enough :P

If Maxxis Assegai is the sharp end of the spear (that was intentional 😁) then the Crossmark is the blunt end of the shaft. As useless as a bicycle for a fish. Avoid at all costs. But you've already discovered that it seems.

Not sure I'd agree that a tyre will wear faster on the trail than tar, I reckon tar will shred it way sooner. Have a family member who rides tar to prep for 36 One etc and he goes through rear tyres quick

Horses for Courses

If you use a Downhill Tyre for Cross Country Marathon Racing you will be the last one to arrive.

Yes, you're right. What I'm saying is that the odd 5km won't kill a tyre quicker than trail. Depends what tyre you're using as well. Soft rubber obviously won't last long on tar either.
