I have a minion super tacky on the front of a shova, its a rather sketchy tyre

I have OEM High Roller II's on my bike and I simply can't get comfortable on them. I never know when they're going to grip and when not.

Did a loop on Saturday as fast as my "athletic" body would allow; that runs next to a river, that has ups, downs and lots of loose sand in the corners, on my Epic; running Spez Fasttrak front & Spez Renegade on the rear. They both broke loose on 2 corners, and there was definite drifting going on, but I could feel it coming, so there was time to adjust and catch it before the wipe out hit. I felt like Rossi...

This morning, did the same loop on the Cotic; running Maxxis Ardent front & Ardent Race rear... Non event. Very boring in fact. (in fairness, it rained last night, so terrain/conditions  weren't the same) Nice combo, just worried about delaminating. Sidewalls appear to be solid. And they are cheaper than the Schwalbe RR I used to run on all bikes, front & rear. (Which were great all rounders IMO)

Saguaro just got its second hole in it (in 2 years). Almost time to replace it with another - although if we aren't getting any rain this year, might go for something that bites hard into dust - WTB Wolverine perhaps?

is that the version with a single compound? If yes, the compound might be a bit hard, and require slightly lower pressure compensate for. I had the HR2, and other than the fact it wears pretty quickly, it was a good tyre. But it was the 3C Maxxgrip version.

Anyone running a maxxis ardent up front and crossmark rear?

I used to have an ardent upfront. NIce tyre, fast roling etc. However I always seem to washout on loose gravel with it while cornering.  Havent had that same issue with some other tyres.

Yip, it's the OEM spec TR version. I've dropped the pressure and they're definitely gripping a lot better. However, I'm still not a fan of the big transition between the centre knobs and side knobs. You just have to learn to trust that the tyres will hookup when leaning the bike over.

hmmm.

The original HR had a rather pronounced deadzone between middle and side knobs. The HRII borrowed the side knobs from the minion to reduce the deadzone and increase traction under braking when leaned over. Do me a fav: take a pic of your tyre, a nice clear close up showing the middle and side knobs, and send it to me pls.

Anyone ever run a Rocket Ron as a rear? Looks like it could be nice and grippy over loose on hardpack (which is what Western Cape is going to be all summer).

Just have a spare one, thinking of using it up before putting on another saguaro..

Although nothing about Shwalbe tyres inspires confidence when you hit the rocky terrain....

bit of a broad brush you painting with there. You have to be more specific for that statement to have any actual value.

I'm running a Rocket Ron SS 2.25 on the rear since last week. Was at Heia Safari the week-end, and man it was real testing terrain, with loose over hard, the loose being almost like marbles basically. It handled everything well enough under those extreme cirucmstances, not sure there can be any worse loose over hard ...

Here's my new Nobby NIC 2.35 SS on the front, it handled very well under the testing conditions there, did have a few drifts from both tyres though, but no falls fortunately.

The Ron looks like it has some kind of disease ... but it's staying at the same pressure at least ...

yeah sorry, that was a poor comment on my part. guess I meant my experiences with the XC orientated ones..

RoRo wasnt a great front tyre for me, and RaRa was ok as a rear but it wasnt the most heavy duty

Yip, I moved from a RaRa front to a RoRo front, now on a NN front ... all in the name of confidence on loose over hard. This NN does feel awesome from the 2 rides I have done here in super dry conditions.
