Hi Guys

This is my first post on this forum. I am interested in purchasing a secondhand Colnago however I have heard many horror stories regarding knock offs, so I'd like to do my homework before doing the purchase.

Is there any advice that you guys could offer me just to give me some peace of mind.

Thanks in advance, it will be highly appreciated.

Post it here and we'll help confirm. There are not a lot of knock-offs around in SA but you always need to check. Are you looking for classic or newer?

I've attached all the pics that were sent to me. It is not one of the classics like yours. Beautiful frames btw! It's meant to be a 2021 V3

Are you buying the bike local to where you are or shipping it?

You can email the serial number to Colnago and they will confirm the frame's details for you: type, year, original colour scheme.

Check the size, that looks like a relatively small frame like a 50s/48s geometry.

I'm no expert on the newer monocoque frames and these are likely more prone to imitation: here are some good photos for you to compare to https://ciclicorsa.com/news/colnago-v3-quality-design-lightness-and-comfort/ or you can ask for the original invoice if it is only a 2021 model.

PLEASE make sure that C40 goes to a home where it will get some riding. It is one of the milestones of bike design and certainly the bike that really set the benchmark for carbon frames for decades to come. For a bike that was first made 28 years ago, it is still able to keep up (and sometimes beat) the latest and greatest wonders. And if the Campagnolo is 10 speed Record, then it is also dressed in possibly the best most bombproof groupset ever made. (Just too great a bike to not use.) But hey, that's just me and I'm a C&C groupie!

The C40 with its original Colnago seatpin and C40 seat collar and Record group should sell at about R25,000 but look at offers from R22,000.

The Mega Master about R7,500 to R9,000

The above is merely my personal opinion

I would agree C40 is very collectable if in mint condition 25K to the right buyer. The Mega not very collectable 9K max if its in mint condition.

Problem is people are short of cash so what we are prepared to accept is not easy to find nowadays

I have a CT1 - C40HP BStay & C40 World Championship but will only let them go if the right offer comes along
