Taper for Argus i presume? Would'nt change this weeks training compared to all the other weeks prior to a race.... never change something close to a race, it will just mess it up. Stick with the same tried and tested training.

I'm still ramping up!

Due to unforseen circumstances, training took a hit and the Argus will now be a "training ride" as part of my plan for end of year greatness . . . . allegedly.

Reduce your volume, keep intensity the same.

If you have trained quite hard you can halve your volume this week or more.

If you are planning to top up your glycogen stores then the best time to carbo load is immediately post workout. 3min hard effort is enough to induce a glycogen recharge.

avoid training on Friday. Light spin on Sat.

Watching this with interest as I was planning to reduce volume considerably but have been having good results in racers to date with normal training load for the week, tempted to just continue with normal load

lots of sleep, eat as much potatoes as you can. do a hard ride on Tuesday. on Saturday just cycle from Greenpoint to top of Sakoposie and back, there is a great vibe in camps bay where I suggest you stop for coffee...

taper? for the argus? its just another race so it should be just another training week.

2hr tuesday morning;

2hr thursday morning;

Complete rest day friday, hydrate lots and eat sensibly (whatever works for you);

90 minute easy spin with a couple of intense efforts on saturday, hydrate lots and carbo-load (or whatever works for you)

try and get as much sleep as you can throughout the week.

Normal routine this week - gym session Monday, Tues and Thursday morning rides (Somerset west to Stellies and back). Then my normal ride prep - starch and couple of beers Thursday night, short and light loosener ride Saturday (maybe 30 or 40 mins to just spin the legs).

The beers part is very important though - even if I miss the rest, I won't forget that .. ;)

don't change your routine as to what you did for normal PPA races.

Had an intense ride yesterday on the route - chilled the flats and rode the climbs hard

Did a leg flush spin this morning, rest this afternoon

Rest Tuesday

Got a 31Km crit ride on Wed eve

Spin Thusrday am and active recovery ride in the PM

Rest Friday

Short spin Sat am, with a few sprints

Race Sunday.

My steak consignment from Spain just arrived. That's pretty much all I need.

Seriously though, I did a moderate 70 km ride on Sunday, rest today, 1 hr tempo ride tomorrow, rest wed, 1 hour moderate ride on thursday with 5 x 2 minute lactate threshold intervals with 5 mins recovery in between, 30 min easy spin on saterday to shake out the legs and check the bike is running smoothly.

That should get me ready for Wheelsuck Sunday
