I've ridden for years with a Camelbak....now I'm thinking of ditching it for the 20-40km rides of up to 2.5hours...

What do you guys take with you on a ride other than liquids (2x750ml)?

NOTE: Saddle bags and Cr@p are banned!!! So just what one can fit in a shirt please!!

Multi tool - good one

Tyre levers

Tubless plugs or a tube?

Sweets

Phone

What else??

Do you really want stuff in your back pockets when you hit the deck?

Agreed, at race time you'll encounter a water table or two over that distance and time...so my list:

- waterbottle in cage, one in the shirt

in ziplock baggie

- 2 bombs, one attached to inflator

- multitool and powerlink

- plugs if you run tubeless - really want to be sure, tape a tube to the seatpost

- energy bars/gels specific to the distance

- phone loaded with Endomondo if you don't already have GPS fitted

IMO anything more on these distances is not needed - so in agreement with you observations

I use a small saddle bag it has the following:

2x bombs

1x bomb head

1x quick link

2x tyre levers

plugs

patches

glue

boot gater

Spare tube is taped to back of seat post under bag

All i put in my shirt is gu etc, phone

2 reasons i also do not like carrying things on my back for short rides and i know that if i get on my bike i know every thing i need is on the bike.

Always take some moola. You newer know where they might hide a nice little bar :)

Get one of those brackets that fit behind your waterbottle that you can screw your bombs into. It think its like R29. No cling cling noises.

Depends where you are riding.

I ride Giba and do a +- 2-3 hr ride or 40km, I'm still pretty close for getting back to the trail centre from anywhere inside the park. so I ride with just 1 bottle, some energy bars/ sweets, asthma pump & 2 bombs and set of quick links and thats it. I did 30km yesterday and still had half a bottle left.

I also recently ditched the camelpack.
