After reading all of that, only one thing stood out for me...you have a backup machine

Its gonna take me a while to get over that hahaha

I used to have 2 backup machines.... :) One of those is gone now, and one of the Nerds backups is also gone.... to the same hubber.... think he still has a couple in reserve.... one of which is mine....

Having spare machines is just a factor of upgradeitis... and in truth once you are sure you like this coffee thing, you should go as big as possible the first upgrade to stop the 3 intermediate upgrades you will do if you don't... it is cheaper in the long run.

I frankly admit to a lack of common sense when it comes to coffee equipment occasionally.... my 5th upgrade should be here by the end of the year.

The Rocket is an E61 heat exchanger machine - and they are all much of a muchness in use - the only 3 features that are variables between most 61 machines are:

1 - Vibration pump vs Rotary vane pump - Rotary is much quieter and better in general, but more expensive

2 - Boiler size - they are in general in the 2 - 3 l sizes - bigger is better, but for home use 2l is enough, 3 l is better, and 4 l is overkill. (there is also copper vs Stainless boilers, but I don't think there is much in that discussion of value)

3 - There are a couple of double boiler E61 machines around - Expobar is most common in SA - these are marginally better than the HX, but to get full benefit of the DB, a better grouphead would be an advantage, so a double boiler machine like the linea mini with it's saturated grouphead would be a lot better than an E61 db machine.... a LOT....

There are lots of places that sell E61 machines in SA - look around and compare prices and specs - and service.... and aesthetics.

of all the E61 machines, I like the aesthetics of the Isomac Mondiale most - http://www.isomac.it/model.asp?id=1 - I have one in a box in my study as a backup machine - slightly different to the photo link - the portafilter handles are stainless.

I think when one decides to spend serious money on a machine, you have to look at it as a 10 year plus investment, so over 10 - 15 years, the difference between 25 and 50k is not large, and it becomes important to make sure you can live with the way it looks that long.

*takes multiple screenshots, which will be used in case any future argument over espresso equipment with my wife takes place.

Already sold unfortunately - and paid for - new owner is getting impatient... because the deal was to wait till the new one comes... and even I am stressing about the length of time it will take still.

... maybe late november or early december... was the latest eta.... every machine is handmade.... and different... does not make for efficiant production.

Get yourself one of those ob Hazelnut flavoured syrups. Put that with it and it will be the best coffee you've ever had. No machine can make better coffee. Period.

So adding the Hazelnut to the wimpy coffee, or just in general?

Splashed out on some douwe egberts coffee, see pic, but I dont want the hazelnut to spoil the coffee as its really a great coffee.

You guys are making me want to scratch an itch I don't have! That Isomac is a beautiful machine indeed. Happy with my Oscar, but maybe it's time for something else... Had it for two years now. Wouldn't mind a machine with a rotary pump...

A lot of hazelnut syrup?

No MAN in his right mind would buy hazelnut syrup or instant coffee.... fortunately Escapee is not in that category.... and I use MAN in the scientific sense.... homo errectus....
