I only have 1 mate who does that... - the rest have all been converted.... some more than others... but most things are vaguely drinkable with milk and sugar - I just ask for tea if they are coffee Neanderthals... :)

I've learned to stop doing that as well..... Water works well in most cases....

I MUST SAY HONESTLY I HAVE NEVER HAD A CUP OF COFEE AND GONE WOW THATS GOOD COFEE, DONT GET ME WRONG I DRINK IT LOTS OF IT, BUT I HAVE NEVER TASTED another level of coffee

Life's too short for Nespresso.

A mate of my wife's has a Jura bean to cup machine (R10k plus)... The worst cup of coffee I have had in a VERY long time! Even worse than the dishwater Nespresso double shot! Came complete with microwave milk...... WTF?!

Fixed that for you...

That Jura should EASILY be able to equal the Nespresso machine... you can change grind, dose and temp within some limits, add fresh coffee and it should be at least drinkable and with a bit of tweaking much better - probably buys the darkest roasted coffee possible...

A fool with a tool is still a fool...

I was going to suggest that they get their own thread.....

Coffee isn't supposed to taste like vanilla or chocolate or hazelnut.... It should taste like coffee.

I saw the Jura and must admit that I was a little bit excited at the prospect of a good cup. I didn't get to witness the slaughter but I was told afterwards that the "secret" was the milk in the microwave....... Water is fine thanks!

@Dips: YOU NEANDERTHAL!

Don't worry... my father in law uses instant coffee in a drip machine.... WTF.... but I take pleasure in making him drink over dosed espresso in quad shots with milk just to see what happens after 2... he has never made it to 3.... and he never noticed when I added rooibos tea in the portafilter either... come to think of it, he never noticed that the red espresso shot was not coffee either... (my wife like red espresso sometimes.. mostly she does in in her super auto.)

If you haven't been there you don't understand....

My previous employer put in a coffee bar with a catering level coffee machine in it. It was IT when they made pornographic margins. Really the business, cost upwards of R 70k for the machine alone.

Of all the things I missed after leaving, that machine was the thing I missed the most. And I was the local barista.

You have no idea how it spoilt me, as it was the real deal. With grinders for the beans etc. Seattle would have been proud of it.

Whenever i can, I set a meeting there so I can drive the machine and build some people a proper coffee on it.

The problem is coffee and cycling fuel the same deeply seated obsessions, hence he tight link.

Buying my nespresso this weekend ????

Take him up on it, nice guy

Considered going through the 50 odd pages to find said post but figured it would be easier just to turn my own machine on ;)

From what you are saying here, if you can at all afford it I don't think you should be buying a Nespresso machine, get a proper semi-auto.

You laugh..... I will only drink coffee at home, my local roasters (Columbo) and anybody that I know who knows what they are doing. Life's too short for instant.

yeah, once you've onto decent coffee, there's no looking back I'm afraid. So it's tea for me as well when out. My motto: '' Life is too short for bad coffee'' Call me a coffee snob, if you must!
