Is it a SAS friendly event (batch - starting)?

No, not as far as I can remember. You get a number board at registration.

Yes you can ride most of it in granny gear, just very rocky and uneven in places.

Take a camelbak as backup as I have never seen as many bottles lost as in this race. Very bumpy on the downs..

Seems like the 2 challenges in the Magalies Monster is the "monster climb” and then the 30km after that! How technical and steep is the “monster climb”, can you actually ride it out in granny?

For me the trick is to try to stay out of granny for as much as possible. I find a bit more momentum makes the rocky stuff more rideable. Also, the harder the gear, the sooner it's over!

Don't know if the routes changed but I did the 45km ride a few years ago. Ended up doing it on an old bike without any suspension. Fond memories, not so much. I learned plenty respect for mountain bikers that day!

Never say never Big B!

8 years later after my first attempt, think I have upped my game so lets see how it goes ....

Thats true! I am hoping my 6 years of extra 'experience' may help as well as having dropped a few kg's .... but who know's?

Less padding will only make the rocks sharper

Don’t really know what time to set as a goal. That made me comparing the 2011 results of the Monster with the 2012 results of the past weekend’s LionMan – interesting! Think my goal is set to be part of the 52% group!!
