Snagged these bad boys at Chinatown for R120.

Now before you pass any judgments.

Here is a list of features as described on the box.

  • SUNSHINE
  • FASHIONABLE
  • INDIVIDUAL
  • HEALTHY
  • VOGUE GLASSES
  • HEALTH LIFE
  • ANTI FOG
  • ANTI SHAKE
  • HIGH IMPACT
  • ANTI TIRED
  • ANTI RADIATION
  • ULTRAVIOLET RAYS
  • MUCH WOW
  • VERY POWER
  • SUCH STRONG

Okay I made up the last 3 but the rest is legit.

I saw the box in store and had a chuckle as I read it.

Then opened it up and quite frankly I can't see much a difference in quality between these

and my 100% goggles. Changing lenses really is a pain so at least I wont have to bother

on a cloudy day. I'll just wear these...

Had a good laugh at this.

Regarding goggles, I'm so cheesed off with my Giros. Took the time to put them in their material pouch to prevent the lens from scratching. Took the goggles out later and saw that the fastening strap buckle had sratched the crap out of the lens. :cursing:

Goggles were never something I felt the need to over invest in.

I paid around R250 back in 2014 for my 100% goggles with 2 lenses.

They were the cheaper of all the models.

The lenses aren't any less scratch resistant than the pairs which cost more.

Mine are scratched too but not bad enough to warrant immediate replacement.

Just how it is I guess.

I noticed that if you're riding in dusty conditions.

Don't be too quick to wipe em on the trail.

The dust on your lense is enough to cause tiny scratches as you try to clean them.

I usually squirt some water to get the dust off then wipe em dry.

If replacement lenses for the Giro's cost about as much as a new set.

Have a look at the 100% range. The entry level models are decently priced.

I decided to treat myself to a pair of these a few months ago:

Oakley Airbrake Stealth with Iridium Fire lens.

They came with a clear lens and the roll-off system (which I haven't yet used).

Changing lenses on the Airbrake is so quick and easy. No fumbling to try pip on those little notches.

The quick release lens system also makes cleaning  lot easier.

BUT... due to the nature of the intended use, almost no amount of care will keep them scratch free.

I did a 1400km, 3day off road adventure. With lots of high speed gravel stretches, so much dust (the event is called 'The Dusty Butt'), and passing/being passed by other riders, the once flawless iridium lens now looks like it went warp speed through an asteroid field.

EDIT: The Airbrake goggles are pretty pricey, BUT every part on them is replaceable. Frame, foam, out-riggers, everything can be bought as a spare.

lekker   you get prizm lenses with yours? Been meaning to get prizms for my airbrakes for 2 years now already ^_^  (i don't do the goggles+half shell thing),but too little usage from the airbrakes to justify the expense. Prizm's are nice on me road sunnies though.

Sadly not. I have contemplated getting some, but at approx R800 for a lens (and considering what happened to my iridium one), It might be a bit too rich for my blood.

What the flip happened to the good 'ol days of getting a bunch of stickers with parts?

I've spent over R65k on parts and kit over the last couple of months, and still, if I'm looking for a single sticker, any sticker to stick on a furry animal or postbox or whatever, I have to consider where to actually go to buy one, or go look for an MBUK that has a free sticker sheet.

CSixx out of all of them, stand alone and sent me a small sheet with chain device spacers (not even the full device, just the spacers) - that's the only stickaas. Seriaas.

A couple of months ago I bought a ton of Leatt kit

  • 3DF elbow guards
  • knee guards
  • 3DF upper body armour
  • 3DF protetcive under shorts
  • knee brace socks
  • 3DF kidney belt

Nearly R8000 worth of protective gear. It wasn't until I finally spent another R4000 odd on a neck brace, that I got a sheet of stickers! And what a sheet it was!

Needless to say, instantly 4 of them magically appeared on my bike without delay, haha!
