There is still the young boy inside me that likes to play.

Playing outside for a few hours alone (mostly) gives me that sense of freedom away from work, life and al that. Just focusing on the trail ahead. There is a zen moment that I exist in and I find a mantra to focus on for a short while.

We all love it for different reasons, but the root is potentially the same all over.

I have to say I am rather fond of the MTB ladies in their muddy cycling shorts.

As a relatively new dabbler of all things dirty on a bike, I have to say there is a lot of truth in this statement.

Exercize =destress ,alone time before i get swamped by my 3 kids .To see the sun .I work in a dark lit room mostly.Used to play golf but i did not lose any weigh by swinging a golfclub.I can smell ,hear and think on a bike .If you choose your events properly you get to places that very few people have experienced

Much old thread but.......

Started riding to lose weight, now I am losing weight to enjoy the ride more. Seeing awesome places, Tokai, Jonkershoek, meerendal, Schapenberg etc etc

And of course I realised that riding a bike today is as much fun as it was when I was a kid.

The endorphin high is cheaper than buying drugs ....

Edit: revisit. Although, actually now I think how much I've spent on kit, maybe I got the math wrong ;)

Gosh. Good question.

'Cos I feel free when I do it.

'Cos I get a weird excited-but-nervous anticipation when I get on.

'Cos it's more fun riding through traffic than being traffic.

'Cos it saves yonks of money.

'Cos a bike is a very beautiful thing.

'Cos it's awesome to ride and hear birds and cicadas and rustles in the grass.

'Cos the shhh-shhh-shhhh of the tyres is mesmerising.

'Cos I can shout "hello!" to the cows during a race.

'Cos it's weird to look back on the road you've come and think "hell, did I just ride all that?"

'Cos the body is a miraculous thing

'Cos cycling may be the closest a human can get to being a bird
