you havent been talking to my wife have you?

ROFL! No dude, just looking at how my wife and I interact with training etc and advising accordingly. Helps that she's a squash player (provincial) so she knows what goes into training and sport in general.

But I just try o correspond my training around her oing things she wants to,or is, doing. Like thissundy is her mte's 30th, which is girls only. That's 4 hours I have to train and ride etc.

Ok , try this .

It's a win win for both of you . I got two kids too and my wife as I said gives my no crap about riding , I been doing it for 25 odd years and we been together for 9 odd.

Ride early mornings in the week , and on weekends do the same , but tell her that she needs her " me time too" so when you get back from riding she must go out with mates for tea, shopping something to have her own time/ hobbies ect , then when she is back its your time with her.

Take her to dinner , movie out to flea markets something to break the routine of you riding coming home and then some .

Make her feel special as she is letting you ride and you appreciate it , show her this .

Also get her involved in a hobby she likes and then support it 100 % .

Funny I never saw you as the Scrapbooking type, or does the name Iron have anything to do with a medium size kitchen appliance??? ????????

I like the munchies way to much. So, my wife encourages me to ride.

Nice one guys.

.I think I'm one of the lucky few..wife even left all her friends and family in Gauteng to move to CT so I can enjoy MTB and windsurfing more...bliksem...sometimes you have to count your blessings and say them out loud every once in a while..

The issue is, as Iron and the Captain mentioned...planning, they need to know, what, where and how long...and some time in advanced is always appreciated..

The one issue I do have to deal with is..costs...bike, races etc that sometimes grinds her the wrong way..but there is compromise, ride my old hardtail 26'er and have a happy wife..or get that awesome looking dually..and have her be not so happy...

now to try and get approval for the Epic entry...

Guys, if your wife hates your riding there is something fundamentally wrong. Work it out.

Guys like Iron and Dangle aren't in their situation because they are lucky, they are there because they work at their relationships. They do some things right and they make the right considerations. Find out how to accomodate your wife and how to service her emotional needs and then work at it.

I'm reading a book called Love Languages now. It is worth a look, as it will show you ways how to show your wife that you love her that you are missing, or where it is communicated or interpreted wrong.

But seriously guys, I think we need to get this thread back on track...

Why?

It's a grade school question. We brought the thread to a six year old level.

Yip. i would have no problems if my wife rode. Problem is we have no-one to look after the kids.

How old are they? I was just patient and did very little while ours was growing up. But once they hit 6 or 7 you can take them on decent rides. When ours was 7 I had her using eggbeater cleats and now that she's 16 you should see her ride.

The thing with both wife and kids it not to try and force riding on them. I didn't tell the wife to start riding when she wanted to start exercising more. I had been riding for a decade before we met but waited for her to approach me about getting a bike. Now she will ride even if I don't.

It is all about listening to your partners wants and needs. Apparently she needs a fourth bike.

Back on track as in "My wife hates my cycling" and not "The Hub Scene for the Singles"

Ah, right. I agree.

Also, is the OP a kid? Sure sounds like it.

Ou's, I'm a relatively newbie to MTB, have been seriously bitten by the bug and try to spend as much time as possible off road in the forests nearby. Here's the thing, I work out of the country for more than 8 months of the year and when I'm home it's flat out MTB everyday for a good few hours, no complaints, just encouragement, then surf with my girls, and home for hot meals and more. No major planning, just chilled living together stuff, she gyms, walks and does her tea thing with mates. Not difficult unless there's major clash with dates. Hell I even rode the Bastille in Franschoek on her birthday, out early and back early in time to party!

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones?

BTW I watch the Hub daily and this has got to be the best thread there has been for a long time!
