Well done

What a ride!

Recover well!

Definitely starting to do easier rides. This hard riding gets a bit too much.

Hi Chaps,

One for the more experienced power users:

This morning I rode with the "slower" bunch, NP higher than AVG power by 68w, however my IF for the ride still being quite high at 0.898. Almost felt that I haven't broken a sweat on the ride.

This was an in town ride, so I'd say the reason for the big difference are from the stop start.

Is my IF over stated and how do I correct this?

Gut feel is your FTP is set wrong. IF gets calculation as NP/FTP. Thus 0.898 is just saying that you have done a ride at 90% of your FTP. If you did not feel any big effort in the ride then either FTP is wrong or you did a decent NP (Thus when you did pedal, it was hard but did coast a lot)

+1 on the stop start.

NP calcs reduces the impact of non-pedaling time in your ride, so you get to rest and recover, but weighted on the distance traveled, it doesn't reduce as much as avg power.

Also how long was the ride? With stop start rests if you did a 1hr ride at 0.89 IF it might have felt relatively easy, but if your ride was +2hrs then yes your FTP might be too low

Just to add to the other comments: It's possible FTP is too low based on your perceived sense of exertion (no sweating)... with a near 0.9 IF...More importantly: When last did you do a FTP power run to assess current shape?(if I am understanding your question correctly)

Hmm don't worry too much about the gap between NP and avg power;that only reflects the level of variability of power / force / pedalling throughout the city course. 68 is a relatively big gap though (so lots of stop-and start)

Seems FTP is too low based on your perceived sense of exertion (no sweating)... with a near 0.9 IF, I will definitely be breaking a sweat... If so, this is a good sign as it means you are building some good legs. When last did you do a FTP power run to assess current form?(if I am understanding your question correctly)

Thanks guys,

Ride time was 1h23m, must say when I did pedal, normally at the front I tried to keep it at FTP and on inclines just over and if I wasnt riding at the front, I coasted(not pedaling).

FTP test was done 3 weeks ago. Not too keen on dying again this weekend, as this year was quite tough training with injury through winter for Baviaans and want to enjoy "riding" a again.

Sounds all accurate then after that detailed report if your ride.

Thats some serious watts there. man. that 5min power is insane.

He apparently weighs 71kg.

I personally don't think given his weight, his 5-min power is not that impressive.

His 1-min power I think is way more impressive.

Have a look at this guy's segment power,
