Had a brilliant start to the week, racked up a decent 420 TSS by Friday afternoon with a IF of 0.85 gearing up for a proper week and BAM! ... cold.

Man down all weekend.

So have my fatigue levels nowhere near where it should be to build towards good supercomp sessions.

On the positive, luckily my income does not depend on cycling so I just have to suck it up and stick to the plan.

Snot-free week to you all!

Your second time down with a bug hey

Recover well, snotkop. ^_^

Haha. Indeed. I try and be 'smart' about it, wash hands a lot etc, but kiddies bring all sorts of who knows what from the schools and as much as my training is paramount this dad's kids won't go to bed at night without a kiss and perhaps a play wrestle match or two.

It's tough hey

And some of the bugs are airborne too.

Just been looking at one of the XC pro's interval sessions who lives in my area.

First interval of the ride 10mins at 466w. Followed by 2 more 10min's and then 3 4min intervals the last one being at an avg of 452w with a final kick of over a 1000w on a 18% climb.

Now I know why I get my A$$ kicked by 10min's. :(

I wonder why he didnt try to keep his watts constant? Especially due to the nature of the TT.

Maybe it wasn't a constant gradient climb? You can also see the speed varies.

Check this out Wilco Kelderman.

40kph on a 5.1% gradient for 1.5km thats 548W for 2:10 after 6hrs of racing.:o

I don't know if these segments are always that accurate, especially in terms of gradients?

Me to but, 75m vert divided by 1500m length multiply by 100 = 5% gradient.

Edit: just looked climb is fairly constant and device used to record was a Pioneer power meter.

Did you mean to reply to the gradient comment on the segment?

Re. the inconsistent power, an average 5% climb might have 2%, then 8%, etcetera, which could cause the uneven power and speed.

Edit. Check the speed, especially from halfway. It's between 20 - 40km/h which in my mind means quite an uneven gradient. Otherwise he was doing intervals!

Yip.

How to go about training during the week if the following 3 weekends I have 4 races coming up?

Wanted to ride easier this am, but still going hard on the climbs.

Nice illustration

I have flashes of El Nino as he clapped the XC field for 3 races in a row.

Please help gurus! How do I calculate weekly IF from individual IFs?

Also wondering if it just a standard average i.e. add them together and divide by the number of 'instances'?
