That's weird but sounds about right. Why is that?

On the IDT I averaged about 52km/h to give me an average wattage of just over 200. On the road I averaged 34 but the wattage was about 220??

You probably don't have enough resistance set on your IDT - you will likely always see differences between road and IDT sessions - even at the same perceived intensity - jack the trainer resistance up and gear down a bit to get cadence (speed) into the desired range for comparison.

If you increase the amount of cooling you get by adding fans on the IDT, it gets closer to outdoor numbers, and I suspect muscle cooling contributed - but I have not seen any science that confirms that (or denies either) so it remains a suspicion.

Agreed. Think I have to find a gear/cadence I can push for 20 minutes around my threshold so will look at the road test parameters and simulate that. Today's test was mostly in the endurance zone (that's no good) with bits in the threshold area. It's time I push less granny gears so onto a threshold improvement plan first up. Will see if I can figure that out.

It was 15 degrees outside around midday in Jozi today an I was still sweating like a pig without the moving air.

Can't believe how low I've been working in the zones actually. Thanks for all your comments guys. Think I'll do some climbing tomorrow and have a closer look at the zones I'm in. Save the test for another day.

It does take a bit of practice to get your pacing right during the test (3 - 5 tests) - and you should always follow the standard Hunter/Alan protocol of doing the test - I have this setup as a garmin workout if someone wants a pre-built one, happy to share it.

It also helps to get some cheer leaders during the test - a bit of verbal and non verbal encouragement does wonders.

There are good people on the Hub and there are some that are not. You're a good person.

Was wondering when you're gonna have an easier week on your prep for the Giro

hahah, I had a 2 active recovery rides(32&25) on tuesday and thursday.

Then a mtb stage race on saturday and sunday. 60km(318) and 36km(191)(shorter due to weather conditions)
