That was a hard ride!! My hands are sore and my arse is sore! I loved the climbs but the descents hurt the most, I battled to hold on after Breedts which slowed me right down and I didn't wanna take a chance and risk major injury.

All in all a great day out, beers in the tent with Divernick, Mike Bike, Pieterg, JCZA, Henrico, Rock n Rolla, Rouxtjie, Mackie, and the ladies

It's a monster for a bloody good reason!!!

There was a rigid SS (Ti frame) near me with the rider in baggies of course. Must have been real rough on all those bumpy downhills, I was hanging on the bars all the way with the lefty pumping

I saw him too. I asked him if he was one of the hub ss guys and he said " no, I'm just a ss guy". When I was trying to recover from my cramps at the end I saw him come in looking way too fresh. Bastard.

So, who's out on their bike this morning...

As usual the monster doesn't disappoint.

Started cramping at the 50km mark, man that does put a damper on progress, especially the climbs at the end where you don't dare get out the saddle, without the fear of both legs locking up.

Great meeting everyone in the tent afterwards.

All things considered, happy with the 4:39, slower than last year but it was 5km longer.

Just got an SMS from Dr Bull (father of Sam), its all happening at the Downhill Nationals at Thaba Trails today, damn I would like to go but need to chill at home, watch XC on Red Bull and maybe do some chores. Was tempted to take a ride there but....

Why nothing on the hub about this event?

Sam is heading off to Europe tomorrow for 5 months for the downhill circus. Amazing.

Well, i did not know what to expect of this ride, and i understand why it's called the monster, it's not the climb, but the whole event.

there is no place to relax. the flats are sandy, or tufted grass. the uphills are rocky and loose, and the concrete strips are steep.

brike my seatrail at km 40. but luckily it was on the flat part of the rail, so i could move the seat forward with the break in the clamp. it held to the end, b ut the altered seating position was murder.

cramped badly three times, had to get off and walk for a 100m got back on and slogged to the end.

hooked up with a rider in choc kit, and we rode the last 15km together. it was great having someone to chat to, and to take my mind off the pain. if you are on the hub, thank you once again for the company.

did just over 5:30 not too disapointing given the circumstances.

using Sani as thrining for this ride is futile.

I saw a few SS hubbers pass me early in the race . You dudes are way to fast for me to keep up . After a late night out with the ducktails on friday I did not feel like changing front to 32 so thought I will be able to manage the 34 ! First mistake , second was doing it on rigid ! I was looking for uphills just to give hands and arms a rest . Monster on SS now done and dusted but don't think I will do it again soon .

Almost forgot, thhe beers with the hubbers afterwards was grreat as always.

stopped off at the Ale house for take-away pizza, and a quick english bitter.

We should do a ride out there sometime. get the wimmin to come collect us there afterwards.

Tried to get rouxtjie and mackie to go the Ale House. We often ride VG then head straight to Dirk for a few beers and a pizza.

I reckon we should arrange a hubbers day out soon

You did, and I thought you were just giving a newbie stick. Apologies dude, you weren't kidding. That race is serious. But hey, been there done that. If I had taken your advice seriously I may have done the 40. But your right, Sani day 2 has nothing on that puppy.
