I just scanned the fred so I forgive me if I am off subject with this comment.

My personal opinion.

If you buy a blank from China, brand it yourself. Dont steal Pina's logo. That name costs thousands on a frame. IMO it is the same frame. You can import it straight for a few K. Or they can give it a cool paint job and stick a few stickers and a clear coat on it and charge lots of K's for it.

Be original and brand it yourself.

VERY IMPORTANT: Import a blank, paint and brand it as a Pina , Try to sell it as an authentic Pina and it is nothing but fraud!

This is what I want to do, going to buy a blank and brand it a "Jigghead"

Do you think I'll find someone stupid enough to think that Pina has released a new model call the Jigghead ph34r.png

I'm still a bit confused. So it's ok to steal someone's technology, mould, etc. and use it to make your "own" frames, so long as you don't sell it with the real stickers, etc.?

I think it looks very cool without any branding

A nice matt black finish with nothing else!

Carbon bikes are hardly one brands technology, imagine every steel bike manufacturer getting up in arms cos the other brands bike looks the same? This is a silly debate, bottom line is that isn't a Pina. If you want it, buy it, if you don't, DON'T.

How Chinese approached car design and manufacturing:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/18/us-china-cars-idUSBRE88G1DQ20120918

"Around 2000, China began embracing an approach it described as ‘reverse-engineering.' It was essentially a fancy word for copying," says Dai Ming, a senior engineer at CH-Auto Technology Corp, an independent design and engineering company based in Beijing. "The problem with those copied cars was that the Chinese were able to emulate the shape of a foreign car, but not its soul."

Chinese car makers tended to sift through a foreign vehicle to identify expensive, non-critical features and functions to skimp on or eliminate, such as a door that closes with a proper "thump," as well as power windows and passenger-airbags. The result was often dubious quality and durability. After a few years of use, bumpers and door handles would start falling off.

Dai says of the typical cheap knock-off model: "It didn't drive well like the foreign car, either, and in some cases it was a safety hazard on the road."

did pina put up a general notice and say watch out for these fake frames coming out of china? I ask because I'm curious as to where the line is on this situation. The chinese are obviously pushing out replicas and selling it online to all and sundry: what then is the real difference between teh frames besides the coloring and stickers, which means stuffall in my mind tbh.

Are these frames actually patented? AFAIK, if there are fancypants processes involved, those companies tend to do things in house. Trek comes to mind.

I'm ignoring Crow's post because that's for cars, and a blatant bit of piracy. In the instance of bike frames, the chinese/taiwanese factories are the Go-To specialists hired by the brand names to do their dirty work. It's not as clear cut.
