So I decided to buy a cheapie to do some training rides on, and just pop down to the shop with..... and I eventually got it, Paid R4000 second hand. So I decided to pop down to my local shopping centre with it. Shorts, T-Shirt, takkies........ None of the usual kit as it was a 1km ride (2km round trip). So my buddy was waiting outside while I got the goods inside the supermarket. I come outside, and this guy approaches me to ask me how much I paid for the bike. I told him 4k.......... It was only at that time that I noticed the Dirty Looks from 3 other peple....... who were with the guy asking me the questions about the bike I was riding. It then dawned on me that this was one of those......... He must have stole that bike MOMENTS......... Or my other favourite...... "if it walks like a duck" comments. I then continued my conversation unphased, and I think I passed my interrogation...... Much to the dismay of the onlookers, who were still giving me dirty looks. The guy even told me he has a TFS900 that is worth R27000........ WOW. I said it must be a Big-Nine....... all I got back was a blank stare.

Needless to say, I'm not WHITE........ And the aggressors were. I'm not suprised, but I am kinda OFFENDED.

I certainly expect to be attacked verbally and threatened for mentioning this, but I guess I can't really be offended If I'm coloured with a decent MTB not wearing any kit, riding to the shop, past a bunch of RACIST WHITE PEOPLE....... WHAT WAS I THINKING..... In this day and age

I know what you mean. Had a similar experience when down for the 94.7 recently. Granted I was in casuals/plakkies and just collected the bike from the shop and I was “hurrying” to get home.

Got the “is the, is that your Bianchi". It was only when deactivating the alarm/popping open the boot that I got the feeling the guy started doubting his thoughts. I only really considered what the whole episode was about a day later though. I felt offended too.

So to me this post is not about spreading racist drivel although I understand it will come across as stirring. Let’s just leave it at that!

Peace out home fries.

I think that's it's quite possible that this was at least partly race related. I can't help but have a hunch that the mob may have included at least one hubber. Hope we get an alternative perspective on this.

But then again, no-one is going to admit to orchestrating a racially motivated interrogation.

What irritates me the most is that even if it was not racially motivated, it would still have been perceived that way. Conversely, even if it was not consciously motivated by race, the suspected perp's race would most likely have strengthened the lynch mob's resolve to "secure an arrest"...

Yaawwwnnnn.... this race thing is getting so old... why can't we all just, get along...

akneetling you chop. Its poeple like you that keep the hate in SA alive, always see black and white and when feeling inferior you play the race card. start making a contribution to SA and stop hiding behind the colour of your skin afterall you are the " right colour".

How was what you described racist? They saw a nice bike being ridden by a guy that didnt look the part. YOU put race into the story. When you were in the shop I hope you bought a bottle of shoulder chip cleaner.

I say Azonic, you and a couple of other guys "doth protest too much"whistling.gif

The guy just related an incident which happened to him; and how it seemed to him, you and the others were not present to see the "interrogators" attitude etc. So before you start attacking the guy for a "worthless post" etc take a chill pill. It pisses me off when people who have no experience just shoot their traps off.

Good Day! and enjoy what is left of the festive season.

Sjo. Next time i see that coloured kid with the stolen epic i shall not dare ask him where he got it. Dont want to be called a racist.

there are different ways of approaching a situation like that; when you surround some-one and treat him like a criminal before knowing the facts, that's wrong.

I would've had a different approach; but hey that's just me.

Dear Mr Neethling,

You do not relay any detail as to any of those people having made racist comments. Seeing as you clearly enjoyed writing us a good long post, I'm sure it would have been in there had it occurred? You yourself admit to not having looked the part of cyclist when confronted. And yet you deduct that this incident took place because those people were white and must therefore be racists.

You know, there is a word for having preconceived notions about people, based on their skin colour... What is it again, I forget?

I am very greatful for people with the courage to check out any individual, of any colour, seen with a bike that could possibly have been stolen. If not for people like them, very few stolen bikes would ever be recovered. The people who spoke to you asked a few questions, were satisfied with the answers and left you alone. How are you a victim?

D

The rest of you lily white boys should rather take a moment to consider.

Oh wow. You don't even realise that this is a racist comment do you? If reversed to: "The rest of you pitch black boys should rather take a moment to consider." it becomes pretty obvious, no?
