Cyclists' Safety in the light of Burry and other's recent deaths - Merged Thread.

... when many cannot even be bothered to wear a @#$^* helmet!!! angry.png

Do you know how many families go out cycling with not a single helmet to be seen?

Yesterday I saw a father cycling with an 18 month-old baby in a child seat and neither wearing a helmet.

If any of these shmucks get killed in a minor accident the poor motorist needs to live with the guilt for the rest of his/her life.

If YOU don't care about your own safety, why would anyone else?!

It is time that the law gets laid down for cyclists and motorists alike. I don't care if you ride a road or mountain bike, cleats or platforms, long stem, short stem, buffalo ears, baggies or lycra - none of this matters. What matters is that you wear your f-ing helmet and teach your kids to do the same!

**Rant off**

I think that is true in an ideal world. Perhaps the ANC can give out helmets instead of T-shirts before the next elections whistling.gif

haha... can you imagine :)

the law is the law. Why should it only apply to people who can afford it?

Agreed, do if I can't afford to service the brakes on my car, is that ok?

Oh, and if you're not wearing a helmet, don't expect me to greet you if we meet on the road/trail somewhere. I'll be employing the "if-you-can't-say-something-nice" rule...

There is a slight difference in not being able to afford a helmet and not being bothered to wear one.

I give all my old helmets to people who can't afford to buy one. They take and I never see them wear it. Another law that can't be policed by a speed camera.

Mr Mosely has clearly not driven in Riyadh, KSA. Neither have I, was far too poep bang - it felt like I was in a playstation game.

[sarcasm] Ye, everybody who has ever drivin a car in the world killed Burry. Anyone who has been a passenger in a car killed Burry. And I thought a taxi killed Burry. [/sarcasm]

Lets not kid ourselves, the taxi driver broke a basic traffic rule that directly resulted in the accident.

Of course it is, just use some cardboard wedges in place of the pads...

I think we are 5 years into a 20 year mind set change. Why i say this is..... For safer roads, there needs to be a huge shift in SA.

One that will take at least 20 years and one that starts with harsh law enforcement. Up till about 5 years ago, i would think nothing of getting behind the wheel after a few beers at a braai and driving home? I think most can relate? But now days, its a no no.... I see my 18 year old nephew's view on drinking and driving... its very different to what mine was when i was 18!!

Anyway, the general drinking and driving view amongst us has shifted in the last 5 years and there is 15 years of harsh law changes to do the rest??

The traffic cops are corrupt

The judicial system is corrupt

The government is corrupt

I dont know how anyone thinks anything will ever change with these three factors.
