Hazzards in SA can mean anything from being broken down, to just deciding to come to a complete standstill at 60km/h to racing to beat the KFC closing times!

This driver's actions place the oncoming riders life in danger. (those who actually bothered to stay inside the cycle lane)

A vehicle who wants to overtake this procession now has to move further in the oncoming lane.

whatachop.

The hub - where everyone gets into a hissy fit over everything.

bwahaha.... ok, lets get our asses back onto the "Hubbers help a lady" thread.. It is a much nicer environment..we all just talk *** but keep it clean and friendly over there.

this is a difficult one. to me northcliff are busy overtaking a bunch of tjops that are all over the place. If they keep their current formation in the cycle lane they should be ok....but ideally i would prefer to see them single file. I think the people they are overtaking are actually at fault here

I just don't know why when you hear a car approaching you don't form up into single file. It's how it happens throughout europe. Back marker calls it and everyone slots in. Like the idea of a peloton car but that guy seems to be causing issues in himself.

If you're pounding a pace then you should be pretty strung out anyway. If cruising 2 up max. If 3 of you want a chat, find a coffee bar.

It just makes life easier for us as riders and also motorist.

I was in the passenger seat of a minibus and it was around 7am. I was gobsmacked at the huge volume of cycle traffic over there - 100s of cyclists. And, of course, once you have more than 6 cyclists together we become very difficult to deal with.

I understand it but wanted to show what goes on. The Northcliff vehicle, i think, was trying to make space to get out of our way so the photo is unfair from that point of view. Looking down the road you can see its being treated like a race with road closure.

I'd been doing this, which was a lot of fun, but looks like a limp condom after the event:

Strange but true..... NATIONAL ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATIONS, 2000:

311. Riding on pedal cycles

311. (1) No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle (no honking/standing up?)

(2) Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time (remember that a "pedal cycle" falls within the definition of a vehicle in terms of the Act: ""vehicle" means a device designed or adapted mainly to travel on wheels.............").

(3) No person riding or seated on a pedal cycle on a public road shall take hold of any other vehicle in motion (no support vehicle assistance?)

(4) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall deliberately cause such pedal cycle to swerve from side to side (no swerving for potholes or road debris?)

(5) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall carry thereon any person, animal or object which obstructs his or her view or which prevents him or her from exercising complete control over the movements of such pedal cycle.

(6) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall do so with at least one hand on the handle bars of such pedal cycle (no undressing or "look ma's"?)

(7) Whenever a portion of a public road has been set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, no person shall ride a pedal cycle on any other portion of such road.

(8) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road or a portion of a public road set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, shall do so in such manner that all the wheels of such pedal cycle are in contact with the surface of the road at all times (no wheelies, bunny hops, etc?)

201. Warning devices

201. (1) Subject to the provisions of sections 58(3)and 60 of the Act, no person shall operate on a public road—

(B) a pedal cycle, unless it is equipped with an efficient warning device which is in good working order and, when used, capable of giving adequate warning of its approach (Isabel on a bicycle?)

if one looks on the right of the OP photo, there is a paceline of about three cyclists in the cycle lane, doing the thing correctly. Could we commend them, as good behaviour should be rewarded as bad behaviour is punished.

OOPS, I forgot nobody ever sees cyclists behaving properly.
