davetapson, thanks for the advice on the carbs thing.

As I am starting out (again) on the lifestyle, I have the ratio's set as 10% carbs, 35% protein and 55% fat.

Does that sound about right as a start out ?

Slowbee, have a look at this one: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-primal-carbohydrate-continuum/#axzz2Xp6tjWDx

And this one: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/dial-in-your-carb-count/#axzz2Xp6tjWDx

Lastly, this one, a relatively typical Paleo view of what constitutes 'good' carbs: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/are-there-any-good-carbs/#axzz2Xp6tjWDx

What he said. Mark Sisson - got to love the dude.

Maybe these should be pinned in the first post under 'Beginner FAQs' or something?

That's a lot of protein - unless you are going to supplement you may battle to get to that. Also doesn't hurt to try and get more energy from fat early on, so I would tweak that to about 65% fat and 25% protein. Or move towards those figures on a "sliding scale" basis.

Let us know how this goes ?

Ja, I agree.

For anyone reading this thread for the first time, or has been reading all the posts from the start but not sure about everything, might first want to ease into it with a more relaxed paleo diet, etc., do yourself a favour and go on to marksdailyapple.com and subscribe to his newsletter.

When you do, you'll get access to a whole of pdf downloads - some excellent reading right there.

Here's the man himself - Turning 60 this year if I'm not mistaken.

I'm busy reading his book "The Primal Blueprint". Sadly not available on kindle in SA but you can change your settings and donwload it, then change back to SA.

He's just released his latest book called 'Primal Connection'. The first 36 pages of the book are currently available as a free pdf download from his site (if you're a subscriber).

I'm not sure what's happening but it's 9 days into LCHF and after having bulletproof coffee and a piece of smoked chicken with double thick cream for breakfast, I feel like I can walk on water. Feeling pretty damn awesome right now.

:D From day 12 onwards you should be able to walk on water and then from about month 4 you should be able to levitate at will :D

Well done. Keep going - you may go through a bit of a "dip" soon, but just push through. The real fun starts as you continue to adapt and form new muscle fibres, but that's from about month 2 - 4.

I had a dip this weekend, Saturday I went for our normal mtb group ride and at 30min I hit the infamous wall. Although I did recover fast after easing off, I definitely lacked my usually zing. I only had short bursts of power, nothing more.

Then yesterday (Monday - day 8) I was drained despite 9 hours sleep. I could barely stand, then again it could have been a mental thing as I was clothes shopping with my girlfriend. :whistling:

Helpmytrap, you echo my experience.

Went to the Cradle with my bro on Saturday. Felt good on the medium pace stretches, but the uphills had me hitting my HRmax a lot and bonking really quickly. HR would jump from 160 to 194 and then back down again real quick only to shoot up again next climb. Only 2h40m, felt strong after the ride, but I was a goner for the rest of the weekend.

Need to read through The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance by Vollek and Phinney and see what's the low down.

My wife makes me pemican.

I used it in sani2c straight after ride for fuel and protein.

Quiet like it actually, going camping in Kalahari for 3 weeks now and will use it as my snack during day.
