You joke, I know a guy who asked his wife to lube their bikes for their upcoming ride...

 

She put lubricant on all the shiny bits, including the rotors. While they were out riding, said guy began cursing the LBS yet again because "they such a bunch of money thieving muppets... etc etc" until he realised what had happened.

 

We chuckled for quite a while after that

Use any old grease you can buy at Midas. Bikes don't require special grease anywhere. The exception is Chris King hubs on the ring drive.

 

No need for Marine grease since we don't have to protect our Jhb bikes against salt spray or salt water intrusion.

 

And, there is no such thing as waterproof grease.

 

you should have seen those JHB drivers, mtn, bikers, cyclists, pedal pushers at Sani2c, they would have needed a WHOLE lot of marine grease.

 

As a complete hijack, what is the difference between silicone spray and wd40 and q20?

I'm servicing my bike myself bought the tools should be here tommorow, just want to know what grease to use for the hubs bb etc, and for the disc brakes will Q20 work?

That is why we call it breaks , cause we put grease Q20 and all kinda other crap on them . They are then knows as breaks .

Avids are known to come out standard with the break technology

Well bought Liqui moly Boots fett (marina grease) and Liqui moly Brake&Parts cleaner think it will work after reading through all the comments. Thanks for the help.

Lubricating your bearings.

 

Wash out the old grease do not mix it with your old or any other grease.

You need to use a grease that doesn't contain lithium preferably a Teflon based grease. Marine grease isn't great either, Q20 is possibly the worst thing you could do to your bike.
