Ya, I may be guilty on this one, I tried in vain to sell me Polar CS600x for what I thought was a good price.

I had to reduce it after a while and ended up selling for around 20% less than I initially asked. The fact is, that if we over price our items, we'll not sell them. Simple as that. Classified shoppers are hunting for bargains, otherwise they would buy new?

Anyhow, lesson learnt and all walked away happy. I think we need to be negotiable on these things.

Agree. I scout the classifieds for bargains

Everything is a balance. Some items I probably over priced and didn't sell quickly. Some items I priced well and still had some cock offer me less than 50% of the price CASH and I'll pick up this afternoon.

A sale happend when both parties are happy - free market principle rocks.

Oh and for the birthday suit h8ers. I hope you mix up your Chamois cream and deep heat.

Bought a decent new (heavily discounted) MTB for around R6k +/- 2 months ago...granted it's a 26"...LOL...it still has wheels :w00t:

Funny most of u guys will have over 100k worth of bikes under ur roof, even if u can only ride 1 and yet 6k on jeans scares u.

Its like that saying about brandy (which I dont agree with by the way) "at any price it will still be a bargain"

I think people inflate their prices on purpose because they know the buyer will offer less than the advertised price so in that way, they still get what they wanted for it.

Isnt everything over priced these days. New and second hand items. Cars, phones everything. I work in construction as a quantity surveyor and see quite regularly how much clients get over charged for work. If one looks at what an item cost to manufacture and what the end product is sold for you can just imagine the markups on some of these items.

As for items sold on the hub. Well I have listed 2nd hand items in very good condition on the hub for a third of the new price just to be offered half of the listed price in the end, so I think a lot of people compensate for that by going in with a high price and hope someone pays them a fair price in the end.

So no different to Cajees then Bob?

Cajees is not the only bike shop guilty of high prices....

What a dumb thread. This classifieds is the most efficient market you could get, it has aspects of transparency, open bidding and access to information. third party advice is often freely available and open to all. What's best is that if a seller really hoodwinks you there is a feedback mechanism where you can openly slate the guy without even having to go to court. The chancers get quickly weeded out.

Therefore it's the best reflection of price. the real price of an object is what it sells for, not what it's quoted at. it's not overpriced if someone actually buys it.

I sold a brand new shock that i never put on a bike build a year or three back. put a speculative starting price at RRP on it, and discounted by R100 every day. ten days later it was sold and both buyer and seller were happy.
