I think the original thread went with the Hub meltdown?

Wow... best race in a while! Awesome stuff... Marc Marquez you beauty! And a nice comeback from Rossi in the latter laps. Some great battles and overtaking, the art of which one mr Hayden needs to re-acquire...

It was a goodie!

After losing his ride to Crutchlow, I thought Heyden was trying to impress a Moto-X sponsor :P

Haha yes, Lorenzo led Marquez until 3 laps to go, then there were three passing manoeuvres in the end. That's more than a whole season of F1!

Pity Pedrosa cooked his tires getting back on terms with the top two, maybe should have taken more time to close the gap. Rossi Stuffed it in for 4th - Bauptista was impressive although alone in 4th.

Seriously, WTF...?!

No time, drive-through or other penalty... They BLACK FLAG Marquez for stopping a lap late?! Ridiculous...

And when did they change this to shorten the race and have this mandatory swap of tyres/bike?

And when did they change this to shorten the race and have this mandatory swap of tyres/bike?

http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2013/race+direction+decision+for+phillip+island+race

The change came courtesy of an announcement from Race Direction after qualifying on Saturday, with Bridgestone having announced that it is unable to guarantee the safety of its rear slick tyres beyond ten laps.

It has therefore been decided to make the following changes to the MotoGP™ class race in the interests of safety:

1. The race distance will be 19 laps (originally scheduled to be 27).

2. Every rider will be required to enter the pits and change to his second machine with fresh tyres at least once during the race. In normal circumstances this means that the rider must change machine only at the end of Lap 9 or Lap 10.

3. No rider is permitted to do more than ten laps on any one slick or wet rear tyre. This means that a bike/tyre change before Lap 9 would require a second bike/tyre change to finish the race.

4. The above procedure is valid for a dry race or a race that starts in wet conditions. Clearly in a wet race the rider will change to a bike with wet tyres.

5. If the race is started in dry conditions and it then rains the race will be stopped with a red flag. The restarted race will be for the number of laps required to complete 19 laps, but with a maximum of ten laps and a minimum of five laps.

6. Riders using ‘Factory’ and ‘Satellite’ machines will be required to use the ‘hard’ option tyre (B51DR). Extra quantity will be allocated by Bridgestone.

7. Riders using CRT machines will be required to use the CRT ‘hard’ option tyre (B50DR). Extra quantity will be allocated by Bridgestone.

8. The pit lane speed limit zone will be extended both on entry and exit and the exit route to rejoin the track will be marked by a white line in the runoff area. Crossing this line whilst rejoining the track from pit lane will result in a penalty.

MotoGP, Superbikes, Supersports and Superstock viewing ratings must have been massively up yesterday because of Gauteng pouring rain... and a great day's racing it was

Yep. His pitwall team stuffed up ROYALLY there. He didn't see Pedrosa come in (probably thought he went too deep into the corner, and had passed him - Ped was behind Marquaz when he went into the pits) and he wasn't told to BOX until the next lap - which was too late. When he saw Lorenzo going in, he likely thought he had another lap open to him - which was vindicated when his pit team showed him BOX AFTER lorenzo pitted...

He broke the rules, and was DQ'd. It's fair, but I reckon someone in his race management team is gonna get BLASTED.

In the heat of the moment, you don't know how many laps you've done or not done. You just wanna do as well as you can.

Sorry, but I still don't think the crime and the punishment matches up. I agree, the team royally stuffed it up. Why not just a drive-through? Which will severely affect his placing, but at least he can continue and get some points.

Just wonder if it was one of the chasers in the championship rather than the runaway leader... whether the same course of action would have been followed. Just saying it's got a feeling of "Ah, here's an opportunity to create a closer championship run-in" to it.

I may be a Yamaha man but I'm not a real big Lorenzo fan, nevertheless, today he showed why he is a champion.
