Is it just my imagination or are a lot of ads (not all) on the classifieds just epic failures...

For one, some sellers extremely overvalue their items. Am I wrong to assume a bicycle drops in value by around 50% within a year of use?

Also the descriptions are totally useless. Lets keep factual with specs...e.g. weight of a frameset in kgs, instead of comments like "super lightweight"...the funniest to me is when a seller describes a bike as "fast"....bikes are only as fast as they are pedalled by the rider by way...or am I mistaken?

Please excuse the absence of links as I'm typing from my phone...but if you guys look around I'm sure you can plenty of silly ads...how about posting our favourite thehubsa classifieds failures for a laugh???

You must remember that the "fast" they are talking about is just a marketing ploy. People that has been cycling for years just overlooks this, but for newbies it might distinct it from another bike that is probably the same.

They don't lie about the bike so why does it bother you? I am sure you don't get bothered if you walk around in a shop and the salesman tells you that this is the best product since toast just because he sells it.

If it help them make an extra sale I say go for it. It's not going hurt someone like selling a broken bike as 100% in working order...

A few pertinent points to remember when reading through classified.

Like new is not new.

Unless the word Cannondale appears it is not fast.

Yes, and my usual response to "as new" or "like new" is....."fantastic so we can start the price of 50% of the new price".

My favorite is that bike that never ages,.....always 6 months old...

bwahahahha or "the bike has done 200km, max"....but the fork is sweating like a pig, the rings and cassette looks like porcupine quils...

You owe me a new screen. And fresh coffee.

Have a look at the recent santacruz ad, no info given, and a half picture... And for 50000? Almost like they don't want to sell it... Very annoying

If I had a Bronson I wouldn't want to sell it either!

Maybe the poor guy's wife is grumpy and telling him to put his bike up for sale. So to keep her happy he does so... but in a way that makes it unlikely to sell.

Win-win! hahah!
